4.10 too high for street use?

Alright i am getting a good deal on some parts for my 95 z28, this winter im looking to do a stage 2 head port job with a matching cam. The gears i bought are 4.10's, some ppl told me that its not all that bad but id like to hear from a few ppl on here, i do some highway driving but drive on the street mostly every day, what kind of gas mileage would i be getting, keep in mind i do mostly highway. will i get 13.. 15 and also is it to high of a gear to run. let me know what you think, im hoping for some opinions. thanks

If you have a 6 speed then I think 4.10s would be great, might be a little much for an auto though. I have an auto and run 3.73s which I think are a good all around gear.

hey just wondering what times are you turning with the 3.73s and what mods have you done to your car. what is you fuel mileage on the highway and the rpm at 70.

I run about 2500 RPM at 70 according to my tach.
I am still trying to sort out my suspension but with my stock LT1 motor with 135k on it I run 13.6@102 which needs improvement but like I said I have all this adjustable crap on my suspension now and am still trying to learn how to tune it.
That 13.6 run was out of the box with a 2.1 sixty foot and 35 psi in my nittos. I had my shocks set too stiff and 0 degrees on my TA. I think with my mods I should be able to get it down to a 13.2@104 and then I would be happy.
Just a partial mod list:
TCI converter
Hooker JH LTs with header mufflers
3.73s
Eibach drag launch kit with Air bag in right rear.(still don,t know what to set it at either)
KYB AGX shocks front and rear. (no idea on those either)
built 4L60E with shift kit.
BMR Torque Arm (now set at -2 degrees)
I need to get out to the track and experiment with my new suspension setup too actually see what it will do.

4.10s are perfect droped .5 in the 1/4 on a stock car. and only turn 2000 rpms 70.

4.10's are really not "optimal" IMO when you cannot turn the rpm's to use the mechanical advantage they give you. Just my .02

I wouldn't get a 58mm TB. It's just a waste of time, your motor doesnt need THAT much air, you might actually choke it. If you MUST mess with the TB, just get it ported to 52-54mm.

You are shifting into 2nd and the rest alot sooner so you can't stay in ..we'll say....1st gear as long. If you had a higher reving setup then you would be able to stay in first gear and the rest longer. IOW....4.10's have a lower gearing.....but you shift a helluva lot sooner and you don't get the full advantage...not saying they aren't better than 3.23 or 2.73....just my opinion. My opinion is that 3.73's turn just as good of times...sometimes better....than 4.10's.

well the 58 is ideal to match the stage 2 ported heads and cam i will have in about 2 months. for a stock car yea it is def a bit much, ive heard its so much that the thing whistles because the intake isnt ported to match the tb. k good to hear about the gears. i will be happy with low 13s :-) thanks .

My '93 A4 has had 4.10's in it for 3 years. Even when it was a daily driver. With a stock LT1 with exhaust manifolds and very little bolt-ons, it went 12.82 @ 105.9 MPH with not much more than them and a 3200 stall converter. I cruise @ 60MPH @ 2300 RPM's with 26" tall tires in O/D. With the 4.10's CC305, and ported heads, I trapped 110 MPH the first time out this year.
