well ok then high miles get the motor rebuilt but dont expect any performance gain that matters up to anything from going to a 355 it will be just like you have a new lt1 plus it will be more than $1,000

Re: 396ci lt1?

I'm not expecting a performance gain off a rebuild. How much is a rebuild to 355 going to cost me? I just want to do it before I throw a rod threw the block and ruin it. Also how much would gears help me without the rebuild.

If you don't know what you're doing and end up in water youl'l end up having to pay someone else to fix your mistake, or if you try to fix it yourself and screw up the block fill that can be a very costly mistake.
If you get into a water jacket you can repair it. But a professional is building my engine i am not doing it myself. I havent got the time much less the patenince to do a build in this nature.

Re: 396ci lt1?

For the most basic rebuild to re-freash the motor; basically rebuilding the heads and block with no other mods, probably in the range of $2k to $3K.

I was going to do a budget rebuild, and once I got into it, and realized what I wanted to do to and with the car my plans have changed dramatically and my budget is now about 4 times that for the motor, tranny, and suspension/chassis mods.

Re: 396ci lt1?

I'm building up a 396 LT1 myself. I know in all likelyhood, I won't be making anymore power than I would with a 383 (maybe just a little more torque), but saying I've got a 383" just doesn't sound as good as saing "396" now does it

Here's a link to a couple photo's of the build up amd the parts. There should be 4 seperate folders of pictures (some have 2 pages worth of pic's inside) . Have a look!
