396 hp estimates

I have a 383 LT1 that I'm planning on redoing over the winter , I want to built a serious Horsepower motor 650-700 . I'm thinking about .040 over 396 .Callies crank, Manley rods ,Diamond pistons 12.5 , solid roller (lift and Lsa to be decided) single plane intake, Fast throttle body and engine management sys . Msd sml block dist. ( no more opti) and a vacuum pump sys. does anyone have a similar combination .Looking to see what the best combination to build a KILLER N/A LT1 .

To build a killer N/A setup you need some killer heads to go along with high compression, big cam, and big cubes.

700hp N/A? It might be cheaper to buy a NASCAR motor...

Your goal is unreasonable unless you do something like adapt a set of SB2.2 heads or the equivalent. Even then, on pump gas I think it's not going to happen. Somewhere in the range of 350cfm is what is needed. Plus high compression, great intake and exhaust, top notch valvetrain, etc. The high compression part is what makes it impractical, assuming you are building a motor to run pump gas.

396

Thanks , 383 is still in the car, making it into a 396 is still in the planning stage with the engine builder ( Fonse Perf.) . Input is just what I'm looking for to put the best combination together. The engine builder has already put together a 396 ,11.1 Trickflow, ported LT4 intake w 58mm TB, Comp cam, that made 598 on the Dyno.

It seems like most people around here with those mods are putting down maybe 400hp...

Always find these types of post curious. If you have an engine builder that can put together a 600HP 396, why aren't you talking to HIM???, instead of asking us?

598 is way out of line vs the dyno results I've seen with a combination like that; 498 is more like it.

598 is highly suspect, which is a milder way of saying I don't believe it.

i agree, the ONLY way I would believe 598 is if its a FI or Nitrous motor

there is a thread on Ls1tech.com with a guy putting down 520/435rw out of a 396, but hes running 13.1, dart heads flowing 330@.700, single plane, solid roller, accufab TB, etc. It is an all out race setup.

What everyone else is telling you is accurate for your goals. Sb2 or similar setup. Big money. You may need to speak with your builder and find out what kind of power he thinks you will make.

Check out this link:http://www.advancedinduction.com/AiEngines.html

They are making big numbers with their LTX13 engine. But it will empty your pockets for awhile.

Just do a low comp 383 and run boost. Forced Induction is key on a small block based high-horsepower street cars (Like 500+ RWHP)

It just becomes un-streetable if your making more than that on motor with LT1 heads, or any small block really for that matter... It will take you broke trying to squeeze that kind of power out N/A, will drive like ****, will likely never run on 93, etc.

Forced Induction (or N20 ... or both) for the win.

650+ hp should be cake with 396 cubes. If you're going to do it, DO IT...haha 15:1 comp. VP Q16 fuel. AFR 235's CNC'd + Super Victor Intake. Light rotating parts, Total Seal ringpack. Have a custom cam made by BULLET Racing Cams. 2" headers, Vac Pump. Giant throttle body...haha Hell this sounds like 700hp+..

Sherman raved about these heads. 345+ cfm. Made 813 hp with out of the box AFR CNC 235's. 400cubes. 14:1, tunnel ram with twin carbs. Said a single carb cuts about 45hp out of the equation. http://speedtalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18086

All of these nay sayers and cloudy day posters are running stock bottom ends, polished stock heads, and a cam at their edge of edgyness... a cc305... OoooOo no the car shakes at idle!!! back down on this monster cam!!! hahaha

Do it...post it.. goodluck!
