396 Dyno #'s...Opinions Please
After finally getting the motor where I wanted it I forked up the cash and got a genuine dyno tune. I don't know if I should be disappointed with these numbers or not so your opinions would be GREATLY appreciated...
SAE Corrected #'s: 380.7 RWHP/444.7 Torque
Peak HP was made at 6100 RPM and remained at around 374rwhp until shifting at 6600RPM. Peak torque was made at 3700rpm and steadily declined as rpm increased.
Mods:
396 (All forged internals)
Ported Heads
CC306 Cam
Jet Hot Longtubes/No cat/Borla with no plate
CAI
58mm TB
Port Matched Intake
Electric Waterpump
4l60E with Vigilante 3200 Stall (Flashes more like 3400)
Heavy duty Steel driveshaft
Moser 12-bolt with 3.73's
Engine ran great and the tuner could not identify any shortcomings or choke points. Is my drivetrain really absorbing that much horsepower? I know that A4's make their money at the track and not the dyno but does anyone think I should be higher with a stout 396? Thanks!

Well the heads are a "full race port" by MTI in Texas before they stopped doing LT1's and focused exclusively on LS1's. They usually make some pretty good stuff and are pricey, so I hope they're not the weak point. As for flow numbers, I don't have the paperwork anymore.
I would post the dyno graph if I could but I can't post attachments and I don't have anywhere to hang it.
As for driveabilty, I really can't complain. It drives pretty well...

A/F ratio is 13 to 13.5 across the board (4400 to 6200). The tuner worked extensively with the timing and A/F (according to him). I belive the pull was from 3rd as all the tables start at 3600rpm. As for talking about shifting...I dunno, I was trying to give some context to the numbers although I probably did not achieve that.

well i just went through the same (weak 396) problem its the cam that cc306 is no good for us you need to contact a cam builder to have one made. my guess is your dynamic compression ratio is off and causing you to loose alot of power mine was and i have 13.8:1 compression. ditch that cam mti did good heads just as good as loyd elliot so i doubt they are the problem flow numbers would be best to have but 99.9% i have faith its that cam

Call Jeff Creech at Carolina Auto Masters. He just finished building and tuning an LT1 383 that put down 445rwhp/439rwtq with a 190cc Ai CNC ported head. Jeff knows a few things about these cars.
