383 on the way. Need cam advice

Im still looking for an answer to this. I got a 383 on the way. LT1 bottom end, forged eagle crank, H-beam rods, 11:1 compression, with 195cc TFS heads and intake, and all the exhaust, gears, and supporting mods. Whats a good reccommended cam? I was going with the cc503 b4 with the heads only plan, but will the cc503 be too mild for the 383 stroker? I want it streetable but still lopey as hell. 1800-5800 or 6000 range.

CC503 is too small in my opinion for a 383. My cam is a small street cam for a 383. I recommend a custom grind from AI or LE. I hope you plan to have those heads and intake ported for the larger cubes. Those castings can have some good stuff done to them in the hands of a good porter. Regardless get with AI or LE and talk to them about what you want. You will be more satisfied with that than an off the shelf grind. I'd know I would. The CC306 just isn't as much as I thought it would be with these cubes. Runs great though. Just want more.........lol.

I was going with stock heads and getting them ported but I got the TFS heads and intake at a good deal. Another question, theyre fully assembled, if they get ported, do I have to get bigger valves, springs and such? Or does the porter just open them up and I can save the money? Id like to take the heads to about 205cc or so and increase the 62cc combustion chamber. Originally wanted about 72cc.

You are not going to get 72cc out of a trickflow head.

What intake did you get?? The Edelbrock is the only readily available aftermarket alternative and has been shown to be worth a slight LOSE in power.

Best advise anyone can give you is STOP everything right now and learn something before you proceed. You are headed for expensive disappointment.

Its an Lt1 intake port matched to the TFS head. Im not looking for 72cc out of this head. My machine guy wanted me to get a 72cc head but I got a great deal on this one with the 62. The intake matches the head, but I plan on giving my buddy both to stretch it out a little bit. I have a good deal on machine work, Hes charging me 20 bucks a hole to prep the block and hes installing the rotating assembly for free. Ive got the bottom end all taken care of, and now I got a good deal on these heads, but I plan on maybe porting them a little more. Money doesnt really matter since I got a friend. After the porting im looking for a cam to match. He knows what hes doing but its still a week off b4 I see him again, and figured Id ask around first.

not sure why you'd want to run a 72cc head unless he's an old school guy that thinks any compression over 11:1 is unstreetable and needs race gas

The more you say the worse I feel for you. A "good deal" is not such a good deal when it doesn't perform.

Best advice I can give you is send those set of heads and intake off to Lloyd or AI and have them port the entire set up. Have them get you a custom cam for the port job they give you. Both do great things with those heads. You can't go wrong with either. Let them know what your intentions are and your goals and they can get you there.

If it were me I'd go with a -5cc flat top piston on a .010 decked block with an Impala .029 head gasket and the heads milled to net you a compression ratio 11.5 to 12.1:1 with a cam speced to max that 383 out then slap a 200 shot on top of that. Bret is good at getting you custom cams for nitrous on Lloyds heads as well.

O by the way the above mentioned set up is very streetable with a 383. That's why I love the extra cubes. Great torque down low for street driving and can still be a screamer up top given a correctly worked set up.
