LR,

The headers are easy, you get 351W headers cut the flanges off and weld on LS flanges and you are good to go. Either way you should have good headers in there!

Zigroid,

Kyle is just doing a cam only setup, thowing a carb/single plane on there and seeing what it will do. That should get the thing in the 10's

Didn't know that about the headers, good to know.
That still eats up his 4000 with nothing left over and a STOCK engine.

I see 5,000 right there.
supposedly an f-body radiator/fans fit in there. I have a friend whose dad works at a dealership so I can get parts for pretty cheap. accessories will more than likely come with a pullout engine I would buy. I'd get rid of most of them. I only need a water pump and an alternator
a 4L60E will back the LS1 but I'll be saving to eventually put a 4L80E in there. overdrive and a lockup converter are two things I really dont want to give up.
I guess I should have clarified "all said and done" as the car is running and moving under its own power safely. I'll keep it mostly stock suspension and LS1 driveline until I am ready.

The 8.8 rear NEEDS "C" clip eliminators and axle's at the very least. Breaking an axle in one gets UGLY. Those 28 spline and 4 lug axles won't take much HOOK.
With a lot of fitting the rad will work. Don't think the DS gonna work unless ya get it modified.

Re: 383 teardown pictures

Well, I can't state a budget upfront. I don't have a specific budget, but everytime I go to do something I plan it out and spend more then 2x as much. I am going the carbed/distributor route so that will save money. I bought my mustang for $3500 but it was already a decent start with a Built 308/T5(carbed), 33 spline 8.8, 5 lug conversion, draglites, basic suspension mods etc. What makes it more budget oriented is that i can sell my motor/tranny combo and put that towards supporting mods. The 402 LS2 Mustang you guys were talking about, He said he has $15K in his car, not including the car itself. I would say with a Budget half that size would put you in my category. That will include my interior stuff as well, If you really wanted to be cheaper its def possible to do so for much less. I have seen iron 6.0 motors/4L60E tranny takeouts for for as little as $2500 complete...A used 4.6 stock K member/modded mounts, some wiring, and alittle fabbing you could easily have it running and moving for just over $3k.

BTW the F body radiator will fit quite easily as will the dual fans setup. Anyone who says this can't be done on a budget is crazy. A completely stock LS1 in a full weight Hatch would still be faster then the majority of the ford powered cars out 'stangs out there. Supporting mods and stuff like that will be what will make it so much more expensive.

Ya could do one of these and make it really interesting.500" Pro Stock Hemi

It would probably bust the budget.

Re: 383 teardown pictures

well, it looks like my block is trashed. I took the crank out today and I found this:

needless to say Im pretty down

on the plus side I scored 2 complete LS2 long blocks each with a spun main bearing for $800.

Dam! That thing was beat! I wouldn't mind scoring one of those long blocks you got. My SS is going with a LS2 block setup and I need a core for that.

I can look over your stuff and see what is salvageable as well. That crank is not worth much now since a regrind is about the same price as a new cast stroker crank. The block might be ok if you don't have any holes in it and someone was doing a 4 bolt conversion.

Shoot me a PM!

Re: 383 teardown pictures

its what happens when you buy a used shortblock and only pop the oil pan to inspect it.

I blame no one but myself. SHORTCUTS DO NOT SAVE TIME OR MONEY.

just wish I learned that sooner rather than later...
