Bought my first one for $1100 incl pistons, rods and rings. I would not go this route again and my 2nd 383 was all forged but bought the engine built so cannot comment on costs.

You would have a much bigger gain by doing heads and intake then just a stroker kit unless you're going forged and going to spray. A stroker kit alone will not net much of a power increase unless you get good heads that flow.

Stroker kit + AFR 195cc heads? What would that net you? Would the CC506 cam be too small for that setup?

A hefty credit card bill.

Stroking the motor and not changing anything else will probably do nothing at all. You'd be Far better off getting good heads.

95% of the power is made in the valvetrain, not the rotating assembly.

Your final HP no's will be based on the cam selection. We cannot say if that cam is too small or not. It depends upon your usage.

I am an example:

My first 383, I wanted simple tuning so I went barely over stock. That was a serious stump puller but died after 5500 rpm. Next, I went into road racing and so built my 2nd to make power all the way to 7K. ON this second one, I made less power below 3500 rpm but don't care because I am never in that zone while racing.

$1600 for forged 383, 395, or 397. Competition Products catalog.. Comes with Howards american 4340 crank, 4340 6" h beam rods, and hrc or srp forged pistons, file fit moly rings and tri-metal race bearings.. I recommend it, better than eagle or scat in my opinion..

Sounds pretty good. What would be an ideal cam for mostly street use but race duty here and there? Custom grinds seem to be the way to go these days.

No, no, and yes. Their intake manifold is no better than the stocker.

For heads/intake, seek out www.advancedinduction.com and have your stock castings worked. Others will recommend Lloyd Elliott. The 58mm throttle body is always a good idea.
