383 and stock PCM

How bad is this to idle with? Just to see what codes are being thrown?

Re: 383 and stock PCM

Drove mine with the stock PCM and stock injectors for a few months without any problems.

There are no limitations with running the stock computer. You just need to get the tune dialed in.

Get yourself a good datalogger like TTS datamaster, .bin editor like Tunercat and learn how to do it yourself.

Re: 383 and stock PCM

I mean I drove it around for a while with the stock program, in the stock PCM, with the stock injectors, with the 383 motor... before going to the bigger injectors and programmed OBDI conversion PCM. The car drove and idled fine that way, but certainly runs incredibly better now. Now I just need to get around to doing some datalogging so I can have things fine-tuned a bit.

BUT, the key is both the PCM and injectors were stock. If you ran a stock tune with larger injectors, it would be way too rich to run properly.

37lbs injectors are already in the car... but a new question comes to mind. Can I find out if my tune was properly uploaded? Like, is there something in the PCM itself that'll let me know what program is in there? Not using LT1 Edit, just using the program to upload the file itself.

Re: 383 and stock PCM

I have a program called PCMRead... it can be downloaded from http://www.carputing.com/. It's only good for OBDI, though, so no good to you. I'm not aware of anything for OBDII that does this (basically a "dump" of the contents of the PCM). In fact, I haven't even tried it with my OBDI PCM yet.

Also, you'd need an interface cable.

I know that this isn't any help to you; this is just what I would do if I was in that situation, but I've gone OBDI and I have an interface cable. There's probably scan tools out there that could tell you what you need to know... I'm just not familiar with them.

Try the Computer forum, if you haven't already.
