383 on stock LT1 heads?????
383 on stock LT1 heads?????
I'm just wondering for someone I know if it's possible/smart to run a 383 on stock LT1 heads.? Please let me know your thoughts/experiences with this. What should I tell him??? Thanks.
We just built a 383 w/ stock heads and 1.6 pro mag rockers. Money was short so that's why he did stock heads. It runs w/ a killer1st gear but then a 02 caught fire and he's on stk programming still. So needless to say it's got a killer 1st gear but 2nd is flat......dawg flat. We'll see what happens when the new pcmforless program and new 02's sensors come in.
problem is your not going to see much gain because the 383 is trying to pull in more air than the stock heads will let it...if your eventually going to get heads it will be fine (just short on money) but if your trying to make a combo out of it, spend your money elsewhere
ACTUALLY, he is just upset about THIS post and this THIS SECOND POST.
The deal is he is just a jelous moron and you can ignore him completely. I have a full IM conversation where he tells me that
a. my motor wont last because its running pump gas on 11:1 compression
b. he would rather have a 305TBI than a 383 LT1 on stock heads
c. If he were me, he would be out there in the snow and nine degree weather doing a head swap
d. I am a waste of life and I should jump in a pool of AIDs.
If anyone would like the full AOL Instant Messanger conversation, I have it saved.
The reason i have stock heads on my car is because this was my first motor and did not know what I was getting my self into financially. As the project continued, I ran out money (I was only in highschool). I had the choice of skimping out of the bottom end and getting some cheap heads or doing the bottom end right and building up the top half later. Three months later a friend at college ported my heads and got terriffic results. 255cfm @ .550 lift on the stock valve job, stock valves, stock chambers and excellent midlift.
The 383 build up was also done for a number of non performance reasons.
1. I was leaving to go to school year round 700 miles away. I had lift access and several professionals to help me with every aspect of this build up from towing my car to the shops to the actual build up to the transmission build up. They were people that I trusted. This project would have costed me three fold if I had tried to do this on my own in Michigan and quality would be out of my hands in certain areas.
2. I was set to attend Kettering University, formally known as GMI, a very competative school based off a required co-op program. Knowing I would be applying for jobs with others who has equally impressive resumes in tough economic times, I did this project in order to gain an edge. Being able to say I have indept automotive expierece, more than simple repairs is very impressive for an employer of an automotive company. This turned out to be a great idea seeing how I got two job offers, one without ANY interview, one with a 10 min conversation and a final offer with a formal interview. 40% of my class did not even get a job.
Overall, I would be hard pressed to say "I'm a moron" or that this project was a failure in any way.
Thanks
