383 sound/vid clips

I'm getting a 383 installed, heads ported...etc (whole engine rebuilt) I just wanted to see how different the car would sound, epecially with different exhaust setups and cams. Are the 383s usually louder? or maybe more throaty at idle & WOT??

You will see a video/sound clip of my car.
Its has a 383 w/boost, a cc305 cam, LT headers, dual random cats and and electric cutout. I have two files:
You will need QUICKTIME to View.
Trust me when I tell you it sounds so much better and deeper in person.

The few 383 I have heard (mine included) seems to have a deeper throatier sound to them. I remember most folks said that you could not tell a difference but I can hear a slight difference in the tone and so can a few other folks that I have talked to that has built motors or has a 383 stroker motor in thier car .

Funny, 2 days after we installed my motor (before the blower went on), I took the car to a carwash and a guy that was there (seemed to be a serious car nut) walked up to me and said
"That is definetly not stock, it has to be a Stroker Motor!"

I said "Do you mean, you can hear the cam?"

He said "No, I hear the cam but that does not sound like a 350 LT1, it sounds like a Stroker motor.
They have a slightly different tone and I am willing to bet its a stroked like a 377 or like 383 or something " He said that he has put a few motors together in his day and can really hear tell the difference in the tone.

I smiled and said "Its a Stroker, its a 383."

Thanks,

haha, nice....i can't wait to get things started on my motor.

P.S.
Marshall, i know there' is only one cam in our car...but what i was referring to are the many different cams that we can use on the LT1, different durations, etc. Different cams for different applications = different idles(wild / mild). I was just trying to get an idea of the difference between the 2 setups.

My 383 Stroker lopes a lot more than that. When I got my new stage 3 heads put on, it started loping alot more. It opened the motor right up. I could not believe the difference. As a matter of fact, one of the old school guys at work kept saying that you can not get a fuel injected car to lope real good. After he heard mine, he said I apologize, your car sounds awesome and lopes really nicely.

When I took off the shorty headers that I had and put on the Hooker LTs, Hooker Y and no cats it was just icing on the cake.

BTW, I have the comp 305 cam also. However, with the 383 stroker I wish I went a little bit bigger, probably the comp 306 or the GM 847 cam. I can only imagine what it would sound like with those cams.

Yeah my car still has the cats on it but it did Lope More before I got it tuned. Now with it tuned its idles much smoother with the adjustments that were made to it and the idle raised up a bit.

Is your car tuned yet?
Also what LSA is do you have with your cc305, mine is at 114?

Thx,
Claude

Comparitively speaking, the 383 will sound less lopier than a 350 with the same claim.

Yes, mine was dyno tuned. My cam is 114 LSA as well.

Mine wasn't loping much until those heads were put on, then wow!! nice lope. I didn't think that heads would make a difference with the sound of the car, but it made a huge difference. It sounds so much better with the heads. The car was starved for air and responded better than I expected.

What were the flow numbers and what would allow you to go to a larger cam.???
