383 should i go 4-bolt?
383 should i go 4-bolt?
I am goning to be building a forged 383 and was wondering if i really need to splay the main caps? I know that it will help make the bottom end stronger but is it that necessary? I am going to be running an eagle crank, h beams, srp pistons, gm 847, ported heads and intake. And there is a possibility of a little nitrous. Would i be "safe" on a 2 bolt block because it is going to be like an extra 500 to splay the main caps.

sounds like hell, thats what i am afraid of, i am going to end up wayyyyy over what i planned to spend but such as life i guess. This started out as a head and cam swap gone bad when i found out i had stock internals.

yeah, I was very fortunate and I actually had a stock 4 bolt block but Id def. do it. the rest will be forged so your gonna want to put some nitrous to it later, no point to leave a weak point in there at this point ya know?
Re: 383 should i go 4-bolt?
I would go splayed also. Like was stated before, do it right the first time. I just so happen to have a fully-forged 383 shortblock for sale. If you are interested, I have 4600.00 into it with machine work, assembly and parts that I am trying to sell for 3800.00 It is setup to handle a 400 shot of nitrous, so in other words she is pretty stout.
let me know if interested.
