383 problems....

Hello everyone,
I recently upgraded to the popular 383 stroker motor in my 95 camaro z/28 and I am disappointed. I think the guy who built it was a ford man and its too slow for the 6g's that it cost me. Recent dyno's reported 320rwhp. The car has an eagle crank(3.750), JE 5.7 rods, and srp .30 over pistons(all forged S**t). The heads were ported and polished with an all new valve train from comp cams. I'm running 220/230@.050with a .51/.51 lift with a 114 lobe sep. I got everything needed to build a speed demon except for the end result of wheel spinning HP. I do not want to bring it back to the guy because he sat on it for 6 months and I might lose it if I see him. Any help is greatly appreciated b/c I don't wanna sell my Camaro. I NEED HELP!

Honestly, I think your cam is your problem, also have you had the car tuned yet?.

Dyno graph? Rwtq #'s? Other known parameters? Any tuning?

Find out what issues you have with this before throwing another cam in there, which many folks will be quick to advise. That cam is the CC305, and should perform better than it is, especially in a 383.

Need more information please.

Also, cam timing might be off and the valves may not be adjusted properly. It should be performing much better than those numbers indicate.

the tuning was done by pcm' for less and he had every bit of info on the car. from manifold pressures to the estimated dyno graph's. torque came out to a little over 345. I think the valves need to be adjusted but will i really gain almost 100 horsepower just over some timing and valve adjustment? The cars fuel system is done all the way back to the tank and intake is a 58mm with manifold porting to match the heads. thanks for the replies fellas.

Are you sure the spark plug wires are routed to the right plug from the opti?I would also recommend you do a compression check on each cyclander.Check the basics fuel pressure, spark vaccaum leak.Hang in there it will work out for you.

Yes, improper valve timing can bleed off power. Also, don't tighten and back off... if you back off at any time, you must return to full loose (beyond zero lash) and then retighten. Otherwise you will affect the lifter bleed operation and will cause some pressurizing issues.

I agree that you may have some valve lash and or timing issues. I had a cc305 before I went to the 236/230 and I dynoed 372 hp and 395 tq with stock ported heads and 1.6 rr.
