383 Piston Ring Gap - Street/Strip + Nitrous

Well I'm slowly but surely assembling my 383 stroker motor. I have Mahle flat top pistons. It's a street/strip car and I plan to run an occasional shot of nitrous. Now the rings are file fit to Mahle's specs for "street/strip up to 150hp nitrous". My question is, if I ever feel the need to run a 175 or 200 shot to, let's say break into the 9's or something, how much of a risk am I taking? I don't want to over gap the rings and lose N/A power since nitrous will be an occasional addition rather than constant.

you should contact the people who make the pistons, for there call. but if its not your daily driver, why be concerned with the risk? i mean i understand the money going out the window thing, but anytime you go to the track theres a huge risk.
but i dont believe you up'n the gap would be worth it.

The rings should be fine the way it is. However, with a 175-200 hp shot you need to be very cautious with the tune - both timing and fuel.

Oh yes, it isn't one of those things I'm just going to slap on and run. But these friends of mine who have Terminator Cobras and GT500's are talking the talk, and I need to keep an ace up my sleeve.

What's your opinion on just letting the ignition box pull timing vs loading a nitrous specific tune? The box for small shot's and the tune for 125 and over?

I'm tempted to gap them to over 150 and run a direct port setup

D: not sure what box you are referring to?

Something like a Mallory 685.

My rings are gapped for a 300 and I see no noticable loss of power, and the track numbers are still on par.

However the car does use a bit of oil, and I am pretty sure that is due to the ring gap being so wide.
