383 Le2

Anyone have any experience with this setup? Drivability? Power? Conclusions? I'm going with this setup and am a little curious to how it will be daily driven.

This is my daily driven car... so just making sure.

With a 383 I the LE3 package would be the best choice if you were to go with Lloyd Elliot. Otherwise just find the best heads you can and a good size cam in the cc306 range.

with the extra 33 cubes your going to need bigger, better flowing heads. I would get the le3's or have some lt4's ported.

Re: 383 Le2

I have the old LE2 on my 383 and wish i had gone LE3, as mine drives like stock just alot more power everywhere. I am redynoing on wednesday with some issues ironed out. Keep in mind, I dont have the current LE2 setup which is even smaller than what I have.

I ran a 383/le2 setup, but it was the old Joe O. cam. Ran times in sig on a shakedown pass, and I'm sure it had 11.10's at 120+mph out of it through my stalled auto.

Re: 383 Le2

Well I know the power will be there, I am also curious for how good this setup will be for a daily driver.

Lloyd suggested the LE2 himself, and said I should be around the 410rwhp range... give or take 10-15hp depending on tune and supporting mods.

This 383 LE2 setup will be my daily driver, just making sure that this is feasible and this motor won't go KABOOM in like 4 weeks.

Re: 383 Le2

Well I have a good 4000 miles on mine, and I haven't had any issues whatsoever, other than an ear to ear grin everytime the right foot hits the floor.

Thats your daily driver too? How do you like driving on the highway?

Any nice races with it? How long did you wait before romping it?

It's not my daily driver, but it could be if I wanted it to be. It is just fine on the highway, and until about a week ago I had the stock 3.42 rear gearing. Gas mileage isn't the greatest, but for the power it makes its plenty respectable. I've seen as good as 18mpg and as poor as 8mpg. I will get some better numbers on gas mileage in the coming week because I am driving a good 1500 mile trip. Driving it on the highway is just fine, no different than a stock car, unless I don't understand your question. The cam surge is there, but not bad and I have learned to drive around it so its not even noticeable. Ion is doing a dyno tune for me tomorrow, so that might help any surge problems.

It likes to rev, so don't skimp on the rotating assembly. Looking at gearing and my old dyno chart (getting a new one tomorrow) I need to pull 1st-3rd gear to 6800rpm to maximize the powerband. I went with a Eagle forged crank, Eagle H-beam rods with the ARP L19 upgrade, and some JE/SRP forged pistons.

I gave the engine 2 heat cycles before any real load, and about 50 miles before going WOT, but thats what was suggested by my builder in order to seat the rings.

Re: 383 Le2

Not to change the subject or alter it, but would a 383 LE2 be practical for someone who only open it up now and then on the highway ramps and at the track, but mostly as a daily driver/personal hobby?

My result should be allowing me to just go out and hop in it, drive it like stock with good/fair MPG, and then be able to open it up if I have too.

I want to go fully N/A because I am in love with the [i]lumpy[/] sound of real muscle.

Thanks, didn't think this needed a new topic.

Re: 383 Le2

Is it really a big difference for me NOT TO throw on a bigger throttle body or ported intake with the LE2 383 setup?

Daily driver man... I can't wait!! WooT

Re: 383 Le2

I was thinking LE2 383 with the LT4 intake.... that might be a little much though.

IMO, I'd do it right the first time

It aggravates me knowing that my car is about 15rwhp from what it should be because of the lack of a throttle body and underdrive pulley.

I'd go with some ported LT1 heads by Advanced Induction if you're going the LT1-route.... If I were you, I'd go with some Ai-ported AFR 210s and an LT4 intake

Mike
