383 help
ok, i am really thinking of getting a 383 stroker.....well....i am getting a 383. i just wanted to know what else would i need to buy becides the engine so that i am able to put it in with no trouble. i am pretty sure i need new heads and tranny?? not sure. if someone could plz help and maybe give me some prices too. also, if you have this engine.....i would possibly like to buy it from you!!! thanks alot!!!
start talking to machine shops in your area to get pricing. you don't absolutely need different heads, but to take full advantage of your application it is a must. if you are looking at the entire shebang from intake to oil pan count on spending around 8 to 10 thousand dollars. Usually a shortblock costs around 4 to 6K and your top end can be around $2500 if not more. A lot depends on the parts and shop you want to use. All this pricing is assuming you do put the top end together (install heads/cam/intake/acc.. on the block) and install the engine into the car yourself. If not then count on another couple grand if not more.
Just do yourself a favor and DO NOT go into debt over a build up. The last thing you want to have happen is be up to your ears in debt and something go wrong with the engine. it can put a reeeaaal damper on things. i've seen too many cases where people have done this and end up selling the car w/ a real bitter after taste.
the best thing for you to do is tons of research, talk to different machine shops, ask for references and save your cash.
hell i've had my junk since new and have been planning on doing a stroker since day one... finally the day has come.
