I don't think you will have less power, but I think its far from optimal for you. As stated with the proper stall and gearing it can be a fun car.

Re: 383 cam

If you do nothing but change the cubic inches you will NOT see a power drop, you will see a huge increase in torque and a HP peak that is sooner than it was before and maybe about 10% more power, But if you Increase the airflow and optimize valve event to go along with the extra cubes will see an increase in both. Most shoot for 1 hp per CI but with everything humming along perfectly optimized you can see more than 1 hp per ci.

Re: 383 cam

I just thought I would post a quick reply. I have a similar setup in my car right now. Home ported stock heads, 383, XE236/242. I ran this setup to a 12.04 @ 117 untuned, on the stock suspension, with an upper rpm hesitation that I have yet to figure out. While this setup would be ideal with better heads, it is far better than what I was running before. As far as the cost arguement, I don't see how a 383 really ends up costing any more anyway, assuming you would have bought a crank either way. As far as the cam selection goes, it all depends on your driving preferences. I kind of wished I would have gone with a little smaller cam so it would be more enjoyable to drive everyday, but I have another car, so just taking the Camaro out on the weekends and peeling out a lot is fine with me.

Re: 383 cam

well im glad to hear if it turns out like a truck engine its not going to be your average truck engine. atleast not like any truck engine that i drive. an engine that makes 360-380 hp and nearly 400ft/lb of torque would be a hell of a lot better than what im running now. heads may be in the near future but for now id be happy with some hella torque. thanks everybody and i think ill stick with the specs on the cc305 for now.
