383 Build Questions..Piston & Main Cap info Needed

Hey guys, I purchased the 2 bolt block that we were talking about yesterday. I'm just going to have it splayed and be done with it. Thanks for all your help with the decision. I do have some more questions though...

1) Which pistons should I use?? I plan on spraying the motor, nothing crazy, maybe a 125 or 150 shot. I've heard that SRP pistons are not that strong when it comes to nitrous, is this true?? Anybody have any opinions on which pistons I should use and were a good place to purchase them would be??

2) Which main caps should I use?? I've heard people talk about Callies and Miloden (I think thats how it's spelled..lol), are these the best to use?? I know they are pricey, but I will spend the extra change for something really strong. Also does anybody know where I can purchase these main caps for a decent price??

Thats all for now, I really appreciate all your help.

You need to have the machine shop get the caps - you have about a 50% chance of getting the right ones if you order them on your own. Callies, Milodon, Manley, etc., are all good. I bet they are forged in the same place and just finished by the brand anyway.

There's lots of good pistons out there. I'd spend more time and $$$ on pistons than worrying about the main caps. I will post more later if no one else expounds on this, gotta go.

If you go lean while spraying nos, it doesn't matter what pistons you have in the motor. That being said, any forged piston will handle a 125 shot if the ring gaps are right with no problem at all. You can run a 125 shot on cast pistons and if the tune and ring gaps are correct it will never have a problem.

Run the car on the dyno with the wideband while spraying is what I am trying to say.

So SRP, Mahle, Wiseco, pick your poison.

As for the caps, like Rich said - let the machine shop order them.
