383 build

I am rebuilding my engine in a week and thought well since I will have the engine already torn down why not go with a 383 build up. I only wondered does it cost a lot more than a standard rebuild and if it is worth it in the long run? Also so you guys know im not doing any of this myself so try to take that into factor when guessing the price. Thanks.

It costs more if you would otherwise re-use the stock crank. If you are getting a new crank anyway, there is minimal cost related to grinding clearance into the block. IF the wrong rods are selected you can get into problems with cam clearance or grinding into a water jacket, though this is much more comon with a 396 (0.125" longer stroke than a 383). That's why most knowledgable folks recommend a 383 over a 396. Either provides a nice boost in torque compared to a 350. Peak power will increase if a different cam is selected and the heads are modified for more airflow.
