383 or 355?

Which one would be cheapest to build? Which one could be daily driven easily? How can I get 400+ hp to the ground with either?

The 355 would be a little bit cheaper and both not too hard to make streetable with a mild power level like that but if you want 400+rwhp why do you need a stroker? Unless you have a lot of miles on your block/rotating assembly and it needs a refreshening you dont need a stroker to get 400 ponies to the ground. Do heads and a cam and be done with it. Theres a thread a few days old where a guy put down 452rwhp on a stock shortblock with really good heads and a large hydraulic roller cam.

Is mileage a priority? If not go with the 383 more cubes is always good...as for dollars assuming your stock crank/rods are ok then you would be spending more money on the 383 if you need those parts anyways midaswell buy the parts for the 383 instead of the 355...you can get 400 hp to the wheels with either fairly easy...I should point out though that mileage is going to be fairly crappy either way with that much power...you'll have a good sized cam either way and the only way to get get decent mileage is to drive it like a grandma and you know thats not gonna happen...but you did say driven daily so it may be a small priority for you...

Mileage isn't a priority. The current motor has 130k on it. But I have another block that is a 4 bolt, bored .030 .

I'd probably go 383 forged pistons and crank...balanced and blueprinted build to put whatever power you want to the wheels and then throw on a 150 shot

Where is a good place to find heads, cam, crank, and all the other goodies?

Plenty of the site vendors have what you need. Combo Motorsports, Thunder Racing, Bauer Racing Engines, then there's Summit, Jegs and lots of others.

I'd check around locally first and see if you can find anything...I try to do everything local...then if I can't I ask around on here...you can't really ever go wrong with summit or jegs...but many times some of the distributors on the board will offer you better deals...maybe some guys that know of some will reply for you...also check the advertisers/group purchase board and see if there are any specials going...neweraperformance or something to that effect had some stuff on sale but I don't know what and Tbyrne is always got something going on ...
