383 12 to 1 compression and a stock starter
There isn't a difference between LT1 Corvette and LT4 Corvette starters, but there is a difference between the Corvette starter and the F-body LT1 starter. The Vette starter is a Nippondenso, and is more squared off looking; it doesn't look like any Chevrolet starter. The LT1 F-body starter looks more conventional, but it smaller than the typical Chevy V8 starter from Gen1.
Based on the broken plastic planatery gears that came out of my F-body LT1 starter, I'll be upgrading if they break again (got it fixed cheap by the local rebuild shop).
I have 11-1 compression and I have a digital 6 msd ignition with a start retard. Whenever the tach signal is below 400rpm, it retards the timing 20 degrees.
Even when my engine is hot, it starts, no problem.

I guess the differance between 11:1 and 13.6:1 is a fair bit
That seems like a lot. Is there a reason you chose 20*? I'm interested since I'll be running about 11.5:1.

You'd know if all wasn't well. Broke part of the piston too....and knocked pretty loud because the rod was SHORTER, which caused the base of piston to hit the crank every rotation!
