355 questions
355 questions
Ok guys, I have read a lot about the 355 the past couple days and have a couple questions about it.
1) The stock crank can be reused, only longer connecting rods are needed? Is this true? If not what is a good crank to run? Also how much horsepower can the stock crank handle?
2) How much horsepower can the stock 2 bolt handle before needing upgraded to the 4 bolt? Should this be a concern with a 355? I am going to buy a seperate short block to build, don't the vette short blocks have the 4 bolt already? Where is the best place to find a decent short block?
3) What would be the best set of heads to get for this? I know it all depends on my goals, but I would like to get as much out of this motor as I can. I was thinking of LT4 AFR's, but I feel it might be a waste of money.
4) Does port matching an intake to the heads make that much of a difference?
Overall I want the bottom end to be completely bullet proof, everything will be forged. I also want to get as much horsepower out of this motor as I can. I really don't want to get into a 383, even though the cost might be the same...I just don't want big cubes. Thanks for the advice.

But you said everything is going to be "forged" so that rules out the stock crank and the stock rods.
Seems like you are a little confused on exactly what you want to do?????
I want everything to be forged, but I am unsure about the crank. I know I am replacing the connecting rods and pistons, obviously, for sure. I really just want a strong, reliable engine. I know a forged crank can handle more power, but if the stock crank can handle what i want then I might not change it. I would like to have somewhere around 450 horsepower. There will never be nos on this car, if any FI.
