355 Full Throttle Issues

Ok got everything back together and got the PCM all installed yesterday so the car i figured was ready for its first really hard run through. So first off let me say the car runs great, pulls really friggin hard and generally doesnt have any issues except one thats bugging me. Under full throttle the car takes off the for some reason its hitting a really high rev hangs at the high rev for a blink or two then shifts. Kinda a scary moment. Now it does this only under full throttle from a stand still. the tranny doesnt slip it just doesnt take to second right away. Once past that little blip the car shift fine and has no issues. Coudl it be that the the stock transmission just cant keep up with the new engine and setup? would a new tourq converter fix this problem at all or do i need to look elsewhere to fix the problem.

My car was doing the same thing. But my problem came after I changed the trans fluid. The linkage came out of adjustment. Go to shoe box's page I think thats where I looked to fix it. I think once you adjust it everything should be ok. and it took me a half a tank of gas to get it adjusted b/c you have to floor it to check and see if you fixed it, then go back adjust then go back and floor it. process continues until you get it just right. good luck

Did you break that thing in before stomping it into the ground?

Re: 355 Full Throttle Issues

The kick down shift points(WOT shift points) in the PCM shift the tranny by MPH. sounds like your hitting the rev limiter before the car hits the WOT shift mph, causing it to bounce off the rev limiter till it reaches that mph to shift at. Changing a few values in the pcm should fix it. Now thats assuming ur tranny is broken or anything.

edit: i just reread your post and noticed you said the revs were hanging real high... do you literally mean hanging up there? or is the car hitting the rev limiter? sort of like the car is stumbling for a sec, then shifts?

Re: 355 Full Throttle Issues

Its hitting the rev limiter before it shifts. It did this before the PCM was tuned also. And for the record yes the motor was broke before getting on it. Im not a complete tool. It bounces of the rev limiter and then shifts. Just a problem I can fix with my PCM tuning? If i get on it let it get where it needs to and left a little then get back on it, its fine with no problems. I appriciate all the information up to this point. Keep the info coming.

ah yes, then i would say its the pcm. I assume you have done a gear swap? if so make sure ur speedo is correct also. If you tune the pcm yourself, fix the kickdown tables.. if not, whoever tuned it for you should know what to do.

good luck

Re: 355 Full Throttle Issues

I had a similar problem going from 2 to 3 after a 4:10 gear install and a crappy hypertech reprogram. After I got my PCM reprogrammed by ION it is now shifting properly.
