355 383?
Re: 355 383?
The stroker will let ya build the same HP/TQ and not be as radical for driving on the street.
Ya can get about the same HP out of either but a 355 is going to be a high maintenance unit.
Remember there is no replacement for displacement.

It has to be a lot more radical than a 383 to put out the same HP and that makes the valve train more prone to break and it has to have different clearances and that makes it wear out sooner. It will have to have very large heads--'bout equal to the 383 and ya got to turn the snot out of it to get the same HP unless ya gonna put a weeny cam in it and hope for 375/400HP at the flywheel at 6000.

I asked a similar question a while back :

Re: 355 383?
After riding in a similar setup to mine but 383 i kinda wish i would have went the 383 route. The mid/low range power difference is pronounced. BUT i love running my motor up to 6800 and the 383 would fall off long before then. When i was building my setup i was going to be road racing, but now since i have been doing mostly street driving the 383 would have made more sense.

Re: 355 383?
I guess it all depends on what you want to do with your car. Road racing or drag racing. In a straight line, 383 is by far the best rought you can go, unless you are running No2 . If you make a 355 most of those types of engines are good for for running No2. Allthough, it all depends on the componets you use to make the engine. The better the parts " Forged/ Hardened" the more durrable it will be. All depends who builds the engine and what you want to do with it.
