350 vs. 383 RPMs

Right now im looking to buy a camaro with a fresh 385 lt1, but for some reason he left the cam and heads stock(i think he didn't have enough money to do a head and cam package). But anyways. I am trying to plan out what i want to do with it but i need to know an average of the rpm at peak power differences with stock motor size vs 385. I was wanting to with le2 or maybe le3 but like everyone else i dont want turn the rpms that the le3 requires at 6800. So about what would it be with 385. guestimates assuming all complimenting parts are there.

I have no idea. he had just got the motor broke in then he got really sick and has to sell the car to pay hospital bills. It has a turbo 350 trans with a 3500 stall and 4.10 rear gear tuned by pcmforless. But when i get it i will dyno it first and post it up on here.

depends on the valvetrain. mine was tuned and ran stock rev limit, i think 7200 or something. i had a cc306 cam on stock ported heads and 1.5 rockers. ran nice...torque motor for sure.

if you replace the lifters and springs/rockers with those that can handle higher rpm you could possibly get it up to 8k or higher rpm. light weight crank, pistons, and rods, smooth valvetrain and decent heads could get you into higher 8k's.

YOU MUST MAKE SURE that you're system is completely balanced to the highest rpm you are going to hit or you'll kill it quick. balance/blueprint everything.

The 385 will peak about 3 - 400 rpms lower than the 350. With a stock cam, that thing must be a tire shredder!

Something does not pass the smell test here, even a moron would not go to the trouble and expense of building that kind of short block and not address the cam and heads. At the very least the cam could have been replaced for less than $200.00
