305 or 306?

Ok I have a stock lt1 I went 290/322 rwhp/tq and a 13.3@105 weth a 2.2 60'.

so. I would either a 305 or a 306 so what would you do if I don't want tuning? a 305 or do you really need tuning with a 306, I need to get a cam so any info you guys have on these 2 cams would be a great help to me.

thanks, Zac

the 305 is just slightly larger than a LT4 hot cam. The 306 is even larger than that. On either cam tuning is a must in order to get the full potential out of it.

After spending the money on a cam swap and all the little extras, why not spend another hundred or so for a good tune?

its not required but it will help to get tunning. the cc 305 will work better with a stock tune compared to cc306. those two cams are night and day difernce. cc305 is very mild, the cc306 is a little monster

i had the 306. i liked it a little too tame for me, it just depends on what YOUR goals are. i would get a custom grind if i were you. the whole shelf cam thing is getting kinda dated now.

Ive owned both. This is my take on the matter:

305: Torque monster. Cruises much better. No cam surge at all. Stock gas mileage. Better throttle response. Ran stock tune for quite a while. Stock sounding idle. Good powerband.

306: HP monster. Loves to rev up to 6700. Doenst like to cruise much. Pretty bad cam surge under 1500. Good powerband. Also ran on a stock tune for a while. I put down 350 rwhp on stock tune w/ a decent A/F ratio (i think it had HPP program, bought it that way). Tune made a diff in drivability, but power didnt add much. Beautiful lopey idle (never heard a better idle on a fuel injected hyd roller cam car).

Honestly i like the 305 better for driving around. The 305 has strong pull at just about any RPM. For the track, the 306 is obviously a better cam. Im in the process of getting my heads ported, and this is where the 306 will shine.

Honestly they are a world apart.

If i were you, i would think about the XE224 or the GM846 (not the 847). The 846 is a nice little cam. It has a little more intake duration and a little more exhaust lift than the 305; and its ground on a 112. (222/230 .509/.529 112). Its also a billet grind cam, unlike the Comp cams.

Just think about your goals. If you dont want heads, then go with the smaller cam. If then you are, then go with the bad boys like the 306 or the GM847 (the big brother to the 846).

Hope that helps,
-Stu

yea well i really would like to have a lope in my idle so I may want the 306 or one of the others you recommended.

and about the 13.3@105, yea all I have is a stock lt1 with an underdrive pulley, borla exhaust and 160k on the clock.

I love how fast it is now but I want a cam and nitrous
