300rwhp and 325 rwtq?

I just had the car dynoed for the first time since i bought it. I havent got the chart yet but the guy at Newtech told me these numbers. Does this sound right for my car?

Ya if you have a hot cam you should be around 320-330 rwhp depending on how healthy the motor is, ofcourse im also basing this off the mods in the sig.

stock heads - untouched? BBK headers - shorty, mid, full? Even with untouched heads, I should think you'd be a little higher. I am probably almost where you're at now, and my cam is quite small and my heads weren't even flowbenched because they ported them lightly.

There shorties but i purchased some Pacesetter longtubes. How much do you think the LTs would add?

Not much in terms of peak power, but they'll add a bunch of low-end torque.

+1 on the low end torque with the LT's.

I have high dyno numbers because my car is a m6/10bolt but still look at my sig. With your cubes and cam you shoud def. have more torque than i am putting down.

Get some heads, that bigger motor needs airflow. And the stock heads are whats holding it back.

Have you taken the car to the track?

I agree with those saying the heads are what is killing it, followed by the cam.
People are too quick to add displacement without figuring on FEEDING the extra displacement.

Often when things are done poorly like this they also use old school thick ringed heavy pistons which hurt power compared to what a stock shortblock would have delivered.

Depends on the primary diameter. A small primary will provide good low end torque, because it keeps the scavenging high at low RPM. But then at high RPM, the small primary diameter chokes the engine. I had a set of 1-5/8" JBA shorties that did exactly that.

Hard to say, the numbers sound like they could be pretty close. The combo could be opened up a little bit, stock heads and a Hotcam on a 383 bottom end.

not to steal this thread but.......I have a set of 1-5/8 LONG tubes, not 1-3/4 like most. My car has ALOT better bottom end and top end than before. of course I also had stock manifolds and stock catback with a flowmaster in place of the stock muffler oh and ORY. The headers were modified (pipes moved port matched etc, they were off of an old chevelle and I added 2-1/2 true duals with dumped flows before rear axle. Freebie stuff lol. Anyway a 383 combo needs to be right. We built an older 383 sbc for a guy, I asked him what he wanted first then told him what to get. He brings me a bunch of mismatched stuff. KB hyper pistons, lunati rods, eagle cast crank street stuff. Then the heads- Pro action that flowed over 300 cfm/230cc and a 490/230 flat hydraulic cam victor intake and 750 carb!? Needless to say that thing was a turd. Had a 2500stall and like 2.73 gears. What a waste. Sorry long winded. Get those heads ported and a GOOD cam!

I would get heads and a new cam but money is low and i hate to spend money on labor. I am taking an AutoTech class and hopefully i will be able to take the heads of my self and send them to a machine shop. Is really hard to take heads of? And how long do you think it would take to remove and how much rwhp would it add if i got them mildly ported? thanks

the heads could provide anywhere from 10-75hp depending on the amount of work and the castings used.

If you could get Le1's (800) and see a 30-40 hp gain. Look in the FS section. Theres always deals.

Do a search, there should be some writeups and posts on head removal/install. How long it takes depends on your skill level, but it is nothing that is impossible to do.
