30# fuel injectors
I'm considering replacing my 22# injectors with FMS 30# injectors with my head & cam swap. Will the larger injectors adversely affect the driveablity? I'd like to see how it runs before I get a mailorder tune. [Not my daily driver.]
Using # 30 fuel injectors the car will inject 1.35 times as much fuel because they flow that much more at the same fuel pressure. The PCM will not realize there is an increase in fuel flow.
Now that you are going to be putting in alot more air you will need more fuel. If you are close in your estimate (say your motor is flowing 1.3 times as much air the computer will adjust the fuel injector pulsewith untill you are at the proper 14.7:1 air fuel mixture. If you over estimate (get too big of injectors) it is gonna run rich untill you do come custom tuning or change fuel pressure to create the right flow volume. Running slightly rich wont hurt anything, just fuel economy and emissions, and you may smell it in the car. Running lean is bad....
Most guys who get #30s to go with a head cam swap run slightly rich. Heck I did a 383 with #30s and its slightly rich.
