3" Cutout VS Catback Kit

Currently I have a 3" cutout installed on my stock exhaust setup. But due to the sound resonance around 2500k its a bit annoying. So Iam thinking about getting a Cat Back kit. Will I still have the same performance gain or will I loose performance?
Or should I just keep the CutOut?

Keep the cutout, but install the catback also........that way you can have the sound you want - when you want.
You won't lose any HP with the catback exhast system......and you may actually pick up a few ft/lbs of torque.

My Flowmasters were a waste of $350.....don't get me wrong, I love the way it sounded when I had it. Then I got the cutout and never close it. I wish I knew about this board before so I wouldn't have wasted my money........Plus cutouts give you around 10 HP......

Do you have emissions where you live? Where do you currently have the cutout mounted?

I had a 3'' Flowmaster American Thunder cat back system on my car a while back. I also had the 3'' cutout right before my rear axle and like you I hated the noise inside the cabin. So, what I did was I went and bought a 3'' Dynomax Bullet and welded it in right where my I pipe is! I then had the old FM muffler cut off so basically by exhaust system ends underneath my car. Same as with the cutout being open, but the bullet is the perfect sound for this setup. Its how you would want your cutout to sound if it was just 1 step quieter inside the car!

No emissions
The cut out is mounted before the axle which causes for some serious sound resonance.

I Think that Ill go with your idea. As long as I can rid of the interior sound resonance ( its a killer when you have a hangover ).
Do you have any sound clips of your car?
Now I need to find a used catback kit, I dont want to spend a bunch of money and not use the muffler.

My goal is to keep the Sound and Peformance plus keep the cost of the setup down to a min.

I know the cut-out can improve track times in some cases, but mine is annoying when the windows are rolled up in the car.... I am about to go cap it up for driving around while I'm off work this week (I don't usually daily drive it).

Hey man check this out!

http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...ighlight=xpipe

This is kinda how I have my dynomax bullet setup. Except I dont have LT's and the X pipe. Right where our y pipe comes to one ( i pipe) is where I have my bullet mounted. And I have the exhaust cut off just like this. It sounds really good. I know longer have the cutout on there but this does basically the same thing and sounds alot better.

Thanks for the link LT1

Does your setup run to the back of the car or does it stop before the rear end?

Keep what you have. If you are worried about sound, buy the electronic cutout add on, that way you can open it from inside the car. This way you can close it for highway/long trips/woman in the car, and open it up, for around town/racing. A good catback, ie. anything except for flowlessmaster, won't make a huge difference in power when compared to cut out. I would guess the cut out my get 3-5 more rwhp then a catback exhaust would.

The exhaust ends underneath the car, the same is true when the cutout is open. But with this setup, its not as loud and annoying as the cutout and it gives you a little bit more back pressure than the cutout does. I wish I had a sound clip, it is bad!!!

the hooker aero chamber is a great exhaust and you will pick up a little torque with it and you can uncap for when you need to annoy people. check thunder racing, they have a great price on the catback and forget flowmaster. track tested to slow you down more than the stock exhaust!!!!! flows do sound good but unless you have a dual setup and can put a muffler on each side it is not worth the money.

Is the exhaust louder than if you had it running out the back. I am currently running a bullet in place of the LM resonator but I kept the pipes running out the back. I am getting mac's w/ off road pipe. I need to find something to quiet it down. THanks!

I have a flow master right now....how much horses do you think I can get out of a cutout? Why put it infront of the axel? Why not before the cat?
