3.73's and Traction

I currently only have a catback and am going to install a TransGo Shift Kit and 1LE DS. I found some 3.73's in the for sale and I am going to buy them. I plan on headers, CAI and either a cam package or 150 shot in the future.

How bad is this going to kill my traction or mileage? Will I need DR for street driving or can I just be careful taking off and in the rain? The first time I went to the track on my stock Goodyear Z rated tires I had a 2.1 60'. I go to the track occasionally but am mostly a street driver (never racer )

What are some of you guys comments?

Also how did you guys reprogram your PCM? Whats the downtime for a mail order tune?

Most importantly I forgot to mention...What are the pro's and con's of 3.23's vs 3.73's?

Obvious ones are 3.23 = better traction and mileage
3.73 = better acceleration less traction and worse mileage

Also what kind of gains do they net in the 1/4 mile? Or will it get worse b/c of worse traction?

Thanks

On a stock motor with street tires, your 1/4 gains will be next to none. But the car will feel faster. Once you get into bigger camshafts, decent sized stall converters, and sticky tires, the gears really start to make a big difference. Around town 3.73s make driving a lot more fun

So not a worth while mod for winning races on a stocker? But better for a modded car? I dont want to have to buy drag radials. Would putting the money into suspension mods (SFC) be a wiser move until I get a cam or N2O?

tires are you best suspension mod.....even with a mild heads/cam combo my street tires would lit up at a 45mph roll on dry pavement drag radials fixed that problem
