3.73's
3.73's
I have a 96 z28 with loudmouth very soon to have mac mids. I have 3.73's but now i was thinking of not puting them in because my car spins so much now with 3.73's it would be insane. I know nittos or slicks would help but i dont have money for those. Are 3.73's that bad for traction?
Re: 3.73's
I take it you meant you have 3.23's right now...I went to 3.73's about 2 years ago and love them...yes it breaks the tires easy, you lose top speed and your rpm's are higher at cruising speeds but with some suspension mods you can put it all to the ground. This was in an A4...I have recently converted to a 6-speed and thinking about 4.10's.
Re: 3.73's
For Nick: 3:73s are not too much for a daily driver. You would need to get some suspension mods, mainly a set of control arms to help lessen the wheel hop, and most likely a new set of tires and a better grasp on when to mash the gas when you are launching so as not to spin the tires so much.
For Jason: You will notice a huge differance with 4:10s, I did when i put them on my car. You will not regret it. Gas milage will go down, of course, mainly on the highway. The best you will prob ever see with 4:10s is about 24-25. Around town, you can probably get 200 miles to the tank at least depending on your driving.

Re: 3.73's
To figure out how much of a difference (daily driver wise) a gear change will make follow this simple math...
If you are wanting to go from 3.23 to 3.73 gears and wonder how much higher you will be revving your engine divide the new gear ratio by your current ratio... 3.73 divided by 3.23 = 1.1547987.
Now multiply that number by the rpm your car is at, at a given speed with your current gears.... 2,000 rpm at 60mph multiplied by 1.1547987 = 2,309 rpms at 60mph with a 3.73 gear. Hope this helps a little!
