3.42 & 3.73 A4 people inside please!

I need gears bad! The 2.73's just suck and I wanna make a switch! I've heard from many people that gears really wake these cars up. IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP MY CAR!!! I need to maintain some gas mileage. So 3.42 and 3.73 people... how does your car perform with your gears? How did the car respond after the swap? What about gas mileage? I'd like to be able to pull at least 20-22mpg on the highway. As for city miles... who cares!

Thanks for your help!

Mike

My 3.73's are not bad. I still get decent mpg making decent power, at least my last combo did.

I might be going with 3.42's if I buy a 12 bolt. But, that is only because my combo seem to make a lot of rwtq and I want to maximize that.

Hi,

I had 2.73 getting 15.3 mpg mixed driving and changed to 3.73. This is a great gear on the street. Still getting 15.3 mpg. I will need a taller tire for drag strip though. I go 105 mph and have 3-4 shift at 108 and I was going to add nitrous this winter.

I have changed to a open loop tune and get 16+ mpg now.

Wow. Sounds like the 3.42's give you the punch and still maintain some fuel economy. That is always a plus! Thanks for the info and pleae keep it coming!

Later,

I put 3.73 in my car and still get around 25 mpg that is Cdn. gallons (which are larger than US) and that is cruising around 120 kph or about 72 mph. Not bad.

I love the kick in the pants that the 3.73 give on take off!

I had 2.73 went to 3.42 totally changed the car, great improvment.Just make sure that whoever installes your gears know what they are doing. I had a very bad experince. By the way you will have to change to a series 3 carrier.I wouldn't recommened the thicker gears for a series 2 carrier.

Somehow I feel the same way!

On the other hand, go with the 3:73's. From a 50 punch in drive the car takes off like mad! I was spinning 3000rpm in drive at 50mph, just to give you an idea. Gas milage got a little worse with the gear change, and gas milage got really poor with 3:'73 and the supercharger. I don't even think about it anymore, fill the tank, fill the tank, fill the tank.

THANKS BANDIT1!!!!!

I swear I was going to post this a minute ago!

So, 3.73's are getting more votes?

I have a 350 w/ a 4 speed auto does that make a difference?

3.73 gears here had 3.42 MPG stayed the same and i couldnt tell much diffrence from 3.42 to the 3.73s but felt a big change going from 2.73s guess it really depends on what your plans are with your car...
