3.42, 3.73 or 4.10?
Mine were loud at first, but now it is quiet! I had a tech install and adjust the preload. Also, I have GM Motive gears with are double-lapped (supposedly to keep them quiet) as opposed to the Strange Gears which are straight cut for strength. Buddies in the Camaro Club ride in my car and can't believe it after I tell them. For RPMs, at 80 MPH I'm revving 2350 RPM instead of 2000 RPM... Manual 6-Speed.
Also, you have to wear them in gently with no hard launches, smooth shifting, and stay below 50 MPH for 100 miles. I didn't believe it but they wore in VERY smooth and it is quiet.

I dont go to the track ever maybe if someone drug me but I would never go on my own will and dont get in too many races, just like to have fun on my own with my car really, whats everyone think about 4.56's I know thats one steep freakin gear but I only city drive so I can actually use 6th... someone talked about getting them and said they were amazing, then someone else who already posted i think altjar said he has 4.33's and loves them... just curious...
Well it sounds like it's hands down 4.10's. So my quesiton to yall then, is can you get a decent 60' with 4.10's and street tires adn how much worse is gas mileage? Also, based on my mods shoudl I go with gears or headers as a first mod? Thanks a million yall.
I have never gone to the track with 4.33 and a true street tire. I run Nitto DR for my everyday tire, and went 1.78 60' on a lowered car with those. Not too shabby
I would recommend the 4.33 gears to anyone, but not with the stock 10bolt. You will break that within a few weaks. Also the 4.33 gears were selected to match my cam, which likes to rev pretty high. They make up for the lost bottom end, and get you into the powerband quickly. With the stock cam it was really wasnt spread out well. Tons of pickup on the lowend. You could put a few cars on anyone in a heartbeat, but it seemed like it fell on its face up top. Maybe it was my imagination???

Nothing special on my car at all yet its a 6 speed and everyone likes the 4.10's just wondering why not 4.56? Again if it helps its totally street driven, dont care about highway, very ocassional street race usually from a 40 punch or something... I figure with that steep of a gear 5th is about what 4th is in a 3.42 so I guess it wouldnt really fall on its face up top it would be similar to a 3.42 just always a gear higher in the gate and I guess if you had any traction, I have nittos, and you went from like a very slow punch where you were in 2nd or 1st gear you get a pretty huge jump. Although I dont think I would bother launching hard for fear of breaking something, i dont care i never launch anyways.

They only make noise if the pre-load is off spec. But if it is done right, you'll never know they are there. It's true, I give rides to people in the Camaro Club and they don't know there are 4.10s there... factory quiet. No vibration either... just wear them in for the first 100 miles. No hard launches, stay below 50 MPH, and change your speeds. After the first 100, I slowly start to drive more normally and after about 300-400 it got super quiet. I had mine installed at Diff Werks in Riverside.

I've had mine up to 140 MPH no problem. Disclaimer, I race in the Silver State Classic races in Nevada. No vibrations with the 4.10s. Perhaps if you have an "ify" situation with a borderline vibration, the perhaps the 4.10s amplify the vibration. There are so many reasons for vibrations (Wheel balance, Wheel True-ness, Tire craftsmanship, bearings, lug torque uneven, Improper installation, pre-load off, defective part/component, driveshaft imballance, slightly twisted axle - not common but it happens, etc.). Anyways, if a vibration occurs, I wouldn't first blame the 4.10s. I wouldn't be running the speeds I do for as long as I do if I had any vibration.
