Are 275/40/17's ok on the front of a lowered car?

I have the corvette thin spoke 5-star chrome wheels. I need new front tires. Stock size is 245/45/17's. I'm wondering if any of you guys have had clearance problems when using 275/40's on the front of lowered vehicles. I know they will fit on vehicles with stock height because they came stock with the SS's and WS6's. I'm sure more than one of you Ram AIR guys have lowered your ride so let me know if there will be any issues. Just for reference I'm running the granitelli drop springs.

I had the Eibach pro kit on my old Camaro with the same tire profile you're asking about. It was a 1.5" drop or so. No problems.

275/40/17s fit fine on my front and rear with 2" drop springs (sportline). Just get an alignment, your camber will be off and cause wear on the inside if you dont. I'm considering 315s on the back

....I've got the Eibach 1 3/4 inch lowering springs on my car with 275/40/17's and no problemo at all.... It's a '94 Trans Am, the tires are now Kumo's {711's or are they 712's? I'll go look if it's important} Anyway, I used to have B.F.G, K.D's on it and no problems then either. I'd like to have Long Tubes, but then thats probably when the problems start, huh?.... Bill...

That's why I need new ones. I dropped the car about 2 years ago and never noticed a problem with the stock tires/ rims. I bought the vette wheels with good tires in June and the fronts were toast by October.

yeah Spinner, I'm considering 315's for my next tire purchace also. I was over at the auto cross site and it seems as if a bunch of those guys run 'em. You need the adjustable panard bar though. Plus wider rims, like 11 x 17's. In fact with my obsessive personality why not 335's? After all I do own a torch.... Bill....

Anybody running the Kumho Ecsta MX's? They are pretty cheap and got good ratings on Tire rack.

....my rims are also the Vette type. No problems with bad front tire wear {although my REAR tires seem to wear out . Anyway, they are the Vette look alikes, size 9 1/2 x 17's {Y 2 K's I think is the style}. I got 'em from a place down in Riverside, California {again, if it matters I'll go look}... Bill....

Are you guys sure 315's will fit. I have problems with my 275's rubbing, I had to pound my wheel wells in. I guess it would depend on the wheel offset right? Maybe because mine is also lowered?

You mean 315s on the front? I thinkn there are some autoXers doin it, on 17x11" wheels of course.

I had 275s on the front of my lowered formula, but actually switched to 245s and i'm very happy i did. Eventually i'll be getting 18x7 front and 18x11s for the rear, so you know i prefer the look and traction of skinnier up front and some extra meat on the back.

JDM Z28, Do a search over at Autocross/Road Racing on this site and it'll tell you all about using 315's. And the reason I say "do a search" is not because I'm to lazy to tell you, it's just that I don't want to leave off any details {yeah, like how big of a hammer we need to get 'em to fit?} about doing it. I do remember needing the adjustable rear panard bar because when we lower 'our' cars they tend to shift to the left side. I know that I also needed to pound on my rear to get the 275's to fit. Plus I cut off that rubber stopper 'thing-y' {I'm not one for technical names .... Bill... Oh yeah, it also talks about the wheel offset necessary for the 315's. Good luck....

No thats ok, I was just wondering. I have an adjustable panhard by the way, they rub on both sides equally. It probably has something to do with the wheel offset and ride height, (Oh yeah and using a B.F.H.) Big F'ing Hammer.
