230/236 with ported stock castings..in here

what kind of numbers are you guys doing with ported stockers, headers, and that 230/236 cam??

is a tb upgrade needed for this cam?

i'm debating about exhaust setup, anyone got sound clips of duals or a single 3" setup? no cat's maybe an x-pipe

my car should be done in a few weeks. i'm waiting on my heads and finishing up some odds and ends. trying to makeup my mind on exhaust and i'm wondering if i should drop a 52mm monoblade on it or not.

car has stock lower, ported intake, edelbrock mid-length headers, and fully ported heads stage 3 you could say. 4:10's in the rear, next spring i want to have my zr1's on the car with a fresh posi unit.

my goal is 400rwhp or more. i could spray some if i want more...

Make sure you get good springs for that cam. Cm 612s are not enough. I personally didn't like that cam because it only pulled to 6200 and then fell flat on its face. From what ive seen though most people have been puting down 360-390 im not sure if anyone has hit the 400 mark with that cam though.

I would recommend more than 612s, but my 612 do not float and I spin to 6500.

yeah, i'd feel better with a rev kit, not this year though, cash is too tight! i've got the springs combo motorsports sells with their 224/236 cam, maybe 612's, not sure.

Hey,
I had the 230/236/112 before my setup now with all of the current supporting mods. I put down 372 rwhp and 362 rwtq (if I remember correctly). These were Standard #s. I pulled to 64K rpm (rpm shutoff) but used comp 987 springs. Hope this helps.

I agree with not using 612's. That's what I have and I'm getting valve float, so I gotta dish out even more money to get better springs.

Re: 230/236 with ported stock castings..in here

I've got the 230/236 on ported stock heads. I have the middle lift version of the cam (.544/.556 with my pro mag 1.6 rr's) and my stock heads flow about 265 int. 170 exh. @ 550 lift. I was expecting over 350 rwhp on the dyno, but was a bit dissapointed though last year when I only put down 334 rwhp and 369 rwtq. Also I trap high 108's to low 109's at the track at full weight (and not much traction).

I'm still working out the bugs in my car though, I just got the PCM retuned (it was running good though with the PCMforless tune), and I tested my stock fuel pump not too long ago only to find it's weak. I also ordered the cam with the cm 612 valvesprings and so because of the steep XE lobes maybe I am getting some valvefloat in the high-rpm's like the others mentioned. I also picked up a set of sticky tires to hopefully improve my launches.

I have a clip of my car with mufflex 4" exhaust if you'd like to hear it. I don't know where to host it though.

I just got mine together tonight. I went from 218/224 to the 230/236. I have stock heads. I hope to pick up a few tenths at least.

Re: 230/236 with ported stock castings..in here

I had LE 2 heads from 2 years ago (not as good as the newest ones). My cam was the XE230/236 .544/.556 114LSA with Comp987's, I had a 52mm TB and Jet Hot LT's. My first run with the old pcmforless tune resulted in 368rwhp/336rwtq (less than 10:1 A/F). Just by leaning it out to 12.55ish I layed down 383rwhp/353rwtq and I didnt even play with the timing. By the way, with 368rwhp i trapped consistent 114mph in the 1/4...

Best at the track in the 368rwhp/336rwtq trim was 8.2 @ 90mph 1/8th to a 12.5 @ 114mph w/2.07 60'. Never ran in it with 383rwhp/353rwtq (which also gained 30+rwtq from 2400-3000rpm). I suspect 116mph traps easy.

My cam peaked at 6000-6100rpm (114LSA cam).

your 60ft looks alittle high yet! have you upgraded the rear/tq arm/sfc/lca's???

i'm wondering how much a new sway bar and shocks will help 60ft?

Re: 230/236 with ported stock castings..in here

i dynod 394rwhp with a custom tune, long tubes, electric waterpump,my car is a 6 speed. i have since added a 58mm tb and ported the intake to match. on the dyno my torque curve was awesome, however my cam did fall on it's face at about 6,000rpm. these numbers were also with the cut out open.

Stock 10 bolt still will LCA's only and dr's. I was rolling out of the hole and then mashing it once I got rolling. Thats why the 60' stunk. Its an 80mile drive each way to the track and I drive her up
