Hello, I have a 97 ss all stock i think, with 110k miles.when im driving on the freeway the temp stayes around 185 deg , as soon as i get in town it shoots up to around 210deg is this normal? if not what could be the cause.

Its normal. I'm not sure off the top of my head, but i think when the a/c is off, the fans won't turn on the first stage till about 225 or something, and the second stage till 235. Again, i'm not exactly sure on the numbers, but i'll check for you when i get home.

I remember it being a little higher than that.

 

Normal. The stock low speed fans don't come on until 226°, high speed 235°. Naturally, your engine is going to heat up when you stop and there is no air flow across the radiator.

 

Mine does the same thing
