1LE Brake GM Part #'s

Was wondering if perhaps shoebox or any other pack rat could help me find the part numbers for everything I would need to convert over to these bigger brakes, right now im running drums in the rear and puny v6 disks in the front. As far as I know i'll need the:

2 1LE front rotors
2 1LE rear rotors
2 Front Caliper mounting brackets (Not sure if I need these but I may for the 1LE as the fronts are already discs)
2 Rear Caliper mounting brackets.
4 (2 front, 2 rear) 1LE calipers
Emergency brake cable.

If any could help me that would be great, thanks.

91 Camaro. Im considering either 1LE or Lt1 conversion actually. Anything will be a improvement over what I have. I can get a rear conversion to lt1 brakes for 200 which is why im considering that route, however im not sure what is needed to upgrade to bigger brakes in the front if I were to try and go LT1. Thanks for the help.

I have on the front of my '96 basically 3rd gen 1LE brakes except with 13" rotors. Just to let you know, Autozone has or used to have the calipers for like $35 each, which is dirt cheap. The calipers I received were brand new, even though the box says remanufactured. I know you can get all the parts from Year One, but I think they charge a lot for them. You could make your own set up if you are comfortable with fabrication. Another route would be the Baer Track pac for your car, which is really the same PBR calipers the 1LE cars came with. It would be expensive as well. But check Autozone online for the calipers, you may be able to save some $$ on them at least.

I wash thinking of upgrading my front calipers to LS1 but now I'm wondering, which are better 1LE's or the LS1 caliper?

I did the LS1 front brake upgrade, added Irotors and wagner thermo quiet pads. Not only do they look good but my braking is better, firmer and safer.

LS1 brakes. I just finished my upgrade to them a few months back, and they are outstanding. I have only one roadcourse track day on them so far, but they held up really well. No fade, and the stopping power with race pads will just about pop your eyeballs out. These are basically the same brakes as the C5/Z06 brakes except that the rotors are 1" smaller in diameter. Pad size on the LS1/C5 brakes is dramatically larger than the 1LE brakes (basically C4 brakes with a 12"? rotor). Also, the LS1/C5 rotors are quiet a bit thicker than the 1LE/C4 rotors as well, which will allow them to handle repeated stops better.

LS1 brakes are definatley the better upgrade, The calipers are much bigger than the 1LE's. I don't know if you fourthgen guys can go to C5 brakes or not, they have the best calipers by far, the fins are on both sides and they are pressure casted.

You can use C5 calipers on a 4th gen with minor modifications. You have to cut off one of the strengthening ribs at one end to give enough clearance, and you'll of course have to use the C5 caliper bracket. They will then fit within a 16" 4th gen wheel. They'll fit on LS1 brakes inside a 17" wheel with no modifications, although if you step up to the C5 rotors (requires special adaptors) then you may have to cut off the rib to get clearance within 17" wheels.

Also, although many people talk about the difference in strength between the C5/LS1 calipers, I have heard of very few cases where anyone had the LS1 caliper "spread", and the few cases that I have heard of have been under heavy roadcourse use.

I wasnt sure if it was just due to the availability of used LS1 brakes/calipers that so many people used them. I guess I will eventually go with those then, thanks for the info.

Ugh, just spoke with a moron at trans am creations:

http://www.tacreationsusa.com/

Ls1 conversion kit is $200. Pretty cheap.

I was actually gonna buy the ls1 rear disc conversion and was asking him if he had any tips on putting them on a drum equipped car and the guy said it couldn't be done and he has never done it before on a thirdgen.

I told the guy there is no difference in the rears on these two cars other than the extra inch of axel tube, he continued to be rude saying it couldn't be done after I asked him what needs to be done to say a fourthgen conversion with drums equipped, so I said forget that and asked about the front, he continued with his couldn't be done antic's and I just slammed the phone on him.

Really ticked me off and posted a message on thier message boards. They have the conversions there at a real good price but man what an idiot, not sure who I spoke with. Here is the link of someone doing it with very little modification:

http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/te...reardisc.shtml

If you decide to go with them, hopefully you won't get the same *** I spoke with.
