1ft long piece of wire - 200$????

I need a bit of help here, I'm trying to replace the little wire which goes from my optispark to the electrical harness (which connects it to the computer).

I've noticed mines not working quite right, I sprayed some carb cleaner on it by accident (was looking for vaccum leaks nearby) and the engine stumbled a bit when it hit the connector, so basically I want to replace it. I'm quite sure it was the connector, it looked kinda grungy and ready to fall apart anyways.

I called up two seperate GM places and they said the part is 200$ cdn!!

What the hell? Shouldn't it be around 10-20$ or so? Thats insane... I was looking at shoeboxes page for the p/n but couldn't find it, maybe someone else can help me out? I thought I was really clear about what I was describing, and the parts people were kinda confused as to why its 200$.

The cables about 1 ft long and consists of only 4 wires with a connector on each side (one going to the opti one going to the wire harness...

It would be even better if i can find the names of all the connectors so i could maybe make it myself? I'm no electrician though...

you really do have to spend that if you want a new one, GM partsdirect had the best deal, you might be able to get a used one on the board, I tried for about a month with no luck though. I also tried finding the connectors, but to no avail either, ended up having to buy a new one OUCH! If you have the right connectors already I would just run new wiring through them, it's not hard to rewire the plugs, just a bit time consuming

Thats insane... surely someone else must have redone the wiring for this? Or replace the part.. it looks like something which would need replacing after a while on a lot of cars..

I priced one once and at least for the Caprice(don't see why it would be different) it was $75 if you called a freindly dealer that will sell at cost +10%

Hey there,
My advice, make your own. Get the applicable connectors and color wires and hook it up. The Weatherpak connectors are very easy to use. Hope this helps.

Have you tried Jason Cromer at Sam Taylor Buick/Cadillac yet?? He usually has the best price on GM parts. You can find thier number on thier website, just be sure to ask for Jason or you wont get the good prices.

sometimes when they look up a part under F-bodies they get different part numbers for same part, its really weird, a 96 harness is the same, might be different part number. I know that intake gaskets when I called where cheaper for a 96 Caprice then a 95 Trans AM event hough they are the same.

Would Painless Wiring possibly have one? I know they are big into wiring systems for all cars.... may be worth a try.

does anybody know the part numbers for this wire? and/or a part number for just the connectors on both ends?
my little brother just bought a 95 formula and I believe this is the origin of his ignition problems.

GM weatherPak Connectors are EASY to repair, even if you Solder the wires to the old terminals, NO way I'd spend more than 10 dollars to fix that. hell, I'll rebuild the connector for FREE just on general principal because that's a F*&^kin Rip off

Thank you Joe thats EXACTLY how I feel about these wires! If anyone can get the names/part #'s of the connectors so I can rebuild these things I'll get 10 or so and sell them at cost for anyone on the board. This 4 pronged wire costs more than the new window motor I just bought. My god...

But for now I'm just going to take off the old one and fix it. It looks pretty gibbled up though, I'm afraid of cracking it when pulling it out :/
