Re: 1997 z28 needs a tuneup..

You need to determine the cause for each of those codes before doing a "tune up". They indicate problems with parts that might not get changed.

P0100 - MAF circuit static frequency. Often caused in the 97's for some reason, by a broken pink wire to the MAF harness connector. Check the pink wire for 12V, measured to the black/white ground wire.

P0200 - Injector circuit malfuntion. One or more of your injectors is not working. Check for 12V on the pink wire in each injector harness connector. Connector off, check the resistance of the injector. Should be 12-15 ohms. If you pass both those tests, use a 'noid light to verify the PCM is supplying the ground that fires the injector.

P0441 - EVAP vacuum switch low during purge. The vacuum switch is not detecting a vacuum when the EVAP purge solenoid is commanded open.

P0171 - Bank 1 (driver's side) fuel system lean

P0174 - Bank 2 fuel system lean

Replacing the plugs and wires will not solve any of those problems.

MSD "plugs" - when did MSD start making spark plugs? Do you have a link?

Thanks..im not too inclined on these things..i know how to check on the maf but not injectors, and what would cause fuel lean?

Re: 1997 z28 needs a tuneup..

What would cause fuel lean?
-Injectors that aren't firing would be one possible cause.
-Low fuel pressure would be another
-MAF sensor that isn't telling the PCM the correct amount of air is entering the engine.

Or it could be a "false" lean condition, caused by:
-faulty O2 sensors or wiring
-exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors
-excessive misfires

My money is on the MAF and the faulty injectors. Get those fixed first, per my suggestions on how to diagnose.

How did they propose to get rid of the codes? What parts are included in a "tune up"? Does it include a new cap & rotor for the Opti? ...new O2 sensors? .. all new filters, PCV valve?

I guess my question is if you already made up your mind as to what you were going to do, why did you even bother posting this? We just wasted a lot of time trying to help someone who apparently didn't want any help.

Oh, well.
