1997 police interceptor Z28 from texas
Hi all, this is my first post here so sorry if it's in the wrong spot
Okay, so this guy is getting rid of what he claims to be a 1997 Z28 police interceptor from Texas and I was wondering if anyone knows what the modifications made to the car were. I'm interested in the car but it would be nice to know exactly what was done to the car by texas law enforcement, particularly to the motor... The other thing that i have a question about is how to tell if it is in actuallity a police interceptor...

As far as i know I dont think they performed any better than a stock z28. I think they did get a bigger alternator though. I'm sure someone will post a website on all the differences, but heres something to get you started.

Unless, they are giving it away, I stay away from a cop car. They really get abused. Doubt that is anything special other than a big alternator. You want to check for holes too, where they had lights,etc attached.JMHO

Not exactly the same year, but back in either 93 or 94, my old man was a driving instructor for the government/law enforcement. They leased 13 or 14 brand new z28's, black ones, white ones and red ones. All auto, and all had same modifications done to them.
They weren't anything majorly modified, they had high performance chips, ABS disconnect, and I'm sure a couple of handling/suspension goodies.
Possibly tranny products as well, they did quite a few Jturns in them.
First time I decided I wanted a Z28 was back then, I would have been 7 or 8 years old then, and it scared the **** out of me, they thrashed the hell out of them everyday.
While you're looking at a Texas, probably highway, police unit, bottom line is they will probably be abused, and if they have upgrades, will probably be a bit worn out by now.
But if you're paying the same price as a nice, stock, unabused private party Z, I say go for the private party car, who knows what has been done in the cop car.
They weren't anything majorly modified, they had high performance chips, ABS disconnect, and I'm sure a couple of handling/suspension goodies.

I have a 1994 B4C (police interceptor package) to make sure check the glove box for the RPO code B4C. Heres some more information about the special services package GM offered.Here
If you purchase the car you can talk to GM via mail and they will send you more information. A lot of police interceptors have high mileage so watch out for that. Good luck
