1995 Z questions.

Hey guys, I've just returned from test driving a '95 Z.

It was at a local dealer, but has an automatic so I was saying to myself" I really want an M6, but I'll take a look at this one anyhow." And I must say that I liked the auto a lot. It shifted firm and smooth, with a little surge, bringing up my first question; Is this normal? Or has this car's shifts been firmed up?

My second question; What should I look out for on a 110,000 mile car that has had no work done on it? No complaints to dealer or anything. It was traded in about a month ago, and this dealer's sister dealer near-by was the one that sold it originaly.

One hose started to leak about half way through the test of about 12 miles. It appeared to be the bottom-most hose on the water pump, leaking at the connection. It got all over the belt as you can tell, and the PS drive pulley started slipping, so there was no PS hardly at all when the guy pulled it into the garage. Something to worry about, or just a bad hose/clamp?

And lastly, the ABS INOP dsah light was lit. Reasons, things to look for, etc?

So yeah, those are my questions, I'd love your guys input. Also, the car is listed at $7k. Any pointers, things to look for, things of that sort, all very apreicated.

Thank you very much.

Not sure where you live but 7k seems a bit high for a 95. I picked up my 96 for 3500. And I know alot of people in my area getting 94-96z's under 5k.

Just my opinion, take a look in the newspaper for other deals or if that price is the norm in your area.

7 grand for a car that has noticable problems with it, I would pass. ABS problems can be quite expensive to repair depending on what the culprit is.

Re: 1995 Z questions.

Im not sure what you mean b surge, but my tranny is stock and it does shift firm, my head will kick back a little even when the revs are under 2k when it shifts. My car has 112k on it and its mostly been wear and tear things to fix, like bad carpet and worn seats. I had a rad leak and the brakes needed to be done also. With the water pump hose i would worry about the opti possibly getting damaged, allthough i have not had any problems with mine.

That's what I meant by surge, couldn't think of a better word. So if the leak goes away (gets fixed), you guys think it's an okay car? I think I can get the price down to $5k, maybe $5.5.

Re: 1995 Z questions.

Like mentioned before, your location has quite a lot to do with the price, but, to me, $7K asking price for a car with such problems is way too high.

With those miles and n good condition (no leaks, no ABS INOP light etc.), I'd be willing to pay 4-4.5K, the most.

Keep on looking.

"u could get an LS1 for that price!"

Can't because of insurrance costs. Plus I like the looks of the Lt1s better.

Is Teal actualy a rare color? I have heard that it was....

Re: 1995 Z questions.

If it was me I wouldn't pay more than $5k for that. I paid 3,750 for the Z in my sig a month ago. Hope this helps.
