It is a PITA do get the oil pan off due to the k-member.
You need to lower the k-member some by unscrewing the 6 big mounting bolts and raise the engine after loosening the motor mounts. All this will get you the clearance to remove the pan then the pump is cake.

Or you could just pull the entire motor, either way it sucks.

what about the exhaust is that going to cause me big problems too? and what about the starter? i have heard that i was going to have to pull that as well? i have an air compressor so doing the k member shouldn't be a big deal

I've heard of people getting the pan out by removing the motor mount bolts and raising the engine a little, without dropping the k-member.

the reason that i was asking is cause i was driving down the road about 50 mph and my oil pressure went from 35 psi to about 5 psi it has never done this before. i havn't heard any knocking or rattleing. when the engine is running normally it is about 20 to 40 psi oil pressure at operating temp while driving and 10 to 15 psi at an idle. so it seemed kind of odd for this to happen. hence the reason for me to replace the oil pump. at the same time i am looking at replacing the sensor. is this a sound reasoning?

or do you have some other better ideas of why this could have happened before i dig into it?

I would verify the pressure with a mechanical gauge before tearing into anything.

i forgot to add that the pressure came right back up again as soon as i came home and started it the next time. maybe cause it was cold. i have been told that it is a proble thing that the oil journals are probly clogged is this something that happens often?
