1994 z28 pcv valve?
1994 z28 pcv valve?
So i was wondering what to do with the valve cover opening hose that i have. The hole in the valve cover has the hose coming out of it, then just sits and drains at the end of the valve cover. Will this cause any performance issues? What setup should i run for best performance? Trying to get this car dialed in for the dyno next month and don't want any hickups.
Re: 1994 z28 pcv valve?
The hose should connect to a plastic elbow inserted into the valve cover grommet, and the other end to the larger connection on the passenger side of the throttle body.

Without the hose not being connected, the PCV valve on the driver side of the intake manifold is pulling unmetered air through the valve cover, messing with the fuel trims. If the connection on the side of the throttle body is open, it’s pulling more unmetered air into the intake manifold, causing a lean condition and further messing with the fuel trims.

Re: 1994 z28 pcv valve?
Is there anyway to cap it and not have it run into the throttle body? Like a catch can or something? I have tb capped off but the valve cover still has gromit and hose.
Re: 1994 z28 pcv valve?
You've defeated the correct operation of the PCV system. It's no longer a closed system.
Have you had a problem with excessive oil in thar line, eventually flowing into the throttle body? If so it could be a plugged PCV valve or excessive piston ring blowby. In a healthy engine filtered air that has passed through the MAF sensor flows through the throttle body and flows to the valve cover, pulled through the system by vacuum from the PCV valve. If the PCV valve is clogged, or there is excessive blowby, pressure builds in the crankcase, and it vents out of the valve cover, entraining oil droplets.
If you don’t want to hook it up correctly, remove the hose/elbow and put a breather in the valve cover hole. If it continues to spew oil, you have a problem you need to address.

Re: 1994 z28 pcv valve?
It does have some oil in it, but very little comes out......if i put a breather on it it will not effect hp at all? I could hook it back to the tb. The reason i took it off was i thought it was not really a necessity. Will have car dyno in the summer, tons of parts to list, still a bolt on car but i want it running as best i can.
