94 had non vented opti spark
95-96 had vented
94-95 OBD I
96 OBD II

94-95 was rated at 275 HP
96 rated at 280 HP

The HP difference was because of the dual cat exhaust on the 96.

The only HP difference between an A4 and M6 is due to loss through the drive train.

If your saying you already have a M6 just make sure you get a PCM for an M6 car when you get the motor.

Yes, it will. Just swap the 94 knock sensor over to the 96 engine and use the 94 harness and PCM. Use the 94 exhaust manifolds and swap the optispark (distributor) harness from the 96 harness to the 94 engine harness. That's about it.

What I meant is, use the 94 engine wiring harness and PCM on the 96 engine. Since the 94 had a non-vented opti, the opti harness is different and won't work on the 96 engine. So then use the 96 opti harness instead of the 94 opti harness. These two will swap without any problems and without having to cut any wires.

You WILL have to flatten the two notches on the 96 opti harness pigatil plug for the end that connects to the cars wiring harness. We just found this out, and I'm suprised that I haven't seen anyone mention this before. The non-vented opti wiring harness has a single notch guide in the plugs. The vented harness has two offset notched guides. You have to scrape down the raised portion on the opti harness when doing a vented swap. Want proof?? This had to be done to both of my cars.

I said without cutting any wires. Did you have to cut wires?

No, but it seems that this is a not so commonly known thing about the vented swap. I'm just bringing it up, not stealing your thunder.
