Okay, I did it!
As mentioned, I have a Viper 300+ remote start alarm. That's what was causing my confusion. The extra relay for the Viper bypass was causing the problem. I disconnected the Viper relay and wired in my resistor. That corrected everything - I have remote start AND my bypass is working perfectly without any security light.
