1993 Style SLP SHORTIES.. USERS INSIDE PLEASE
How the hell do you route your #5 cylinder wire? I've burnt 3 in the past 2 days, and even with boot protectors on it.. Its getting out of hand. How are you routing your wires? Please dont say over the valve covers... I rather not go that route if I really dont have to. I dont wanna make my own wires n such.... Please help. I dunno what to do... I'll put a new wire in the AM and by PM its fried and I get PO305
Thanks in advance for your help...
Thanks in advance for your help...
I have 94 style SLP shorties (same thing) and I just figured out that my cars stumble problem was caused by a torn #5 plug wire. That primary is a pita with SLP's. I have all mine routed in the stock locations, that wire I use a 6" piece of high temp sleeving along with one of the stock metal protectors that I cut down a little to fit over the boot. My wires have been on with these headers for about 10k miles and none have gotten burnt. My problem was that I tore the wire at the base of the boot trying to get it on because I used a flathead screwdriver to force it onto the plug a few times since there is no room to push it on.
I used a flathead screwdriver yesterday too... HMMM..... I also have 1200degree boot protector over it... Also just about all stock locations for my wires.. what wires are u using? I have msd 8.5's on there now with the exception on my cyl 5 which is taylor 8mm
I'm using Taylor 8mm wires all around except for #5 now, I'm using an 8mm (Accell?) wire I got out of a universal set at Pep Boys the other day
I didn't have time to wait to order Taylors repair kit for it, I was running it at SLP day last Saturday. I used a zip tie on the wire and sleeve to keep it away from the primary just enough this time to be safe. The wire never burnt before but the sleeve was starting to look pretty toasted, I replaced it with a new one this time. Also my headers are uncoated which doesn't help I'm sure.

What did you zip tie it to, for keeping it out of the way? Did you zip it to the metal piece holding the next one back on? I'm gonna run over to NAPA and see if they can match me up a couple 8mm's for this # 5cylinder... I just need to repair that cylinder to get me through til winter.. Plus I got the car listed for sale, But I doubt I'll sell it. Its my baby, I'm just gettin really mad with it
I have the MSD 8.5 wires and #5 wire was so short it barely reaches but that keeps the wire nice and straight as it routes in the stock location under my coated SLP's. I wrapped the wire in foil coated fiberglass tape from Pep Boys and other than looking a little hokey it is working great.
Well, Used my extra cyl #7 wire and zip tied it very close to the current # 7 and it looks clear of primary # 5... Took it our for a half hr, so far still good... Feels good to have the power when you punch it
Also ordering another set of MSD 8.5's, Just gonna redo them when shes in the garage for the winter...
