1993 opti...
I've only got 57,000 miles on my 93 t/a. I heard that the optisparks in 93s and 94s suck since they collect moisture. I have no idea when I should be expecting problems out of mine... any idea? When did some of you go through those problems? Oh and what is the best thing I could replace it with? I heard they have some nice systems to replace it...and is it a lot of money to get done?
LTCC

Yes, 93-94 optis are non-vented and usually experience more problems. As to when it goes out, it depends on the environment the car is in and is more of just a coincidence than anything else. It could go out tomorrow or 5 years from now. The worst thing you can do is spill stuff on it though, such as coolant. Keeping the wires and plugs in good shape will help too, because the voltage traveling through those components takes the path of least resistance. If your opti is getting kind of old and one your plugs and wires are marginal, the spark could decide it would rather travel between the terminals in the opti than bridging the gap on the plug. Other than that, just buy a cam and some springs for your car when your opti goes out, you'll be halfway there anyway.
The best alternative to optis are the coil conversion kits. LTCC is one coil per cylinder and is usually considered the best, and probably the most pricey too (and the least user-friendly). Some of the benefits are never having to deal with opticrap again, and a smoother idle (or so I have heard, I'm still running on the opticrap
)
