160k Mile Engine: Advice? Cam/Header?
160k Mile Engine: Advice? Cam/Header?
I have a 1993 350 z28 camaro with 160k miles on it. I have some money laying around and I've been looking at these heads and cam shaft for a while. The heads im looking to buy are:
LT1 LE1 heads
Re-machined Stock Valves
Crane Dbl Valve Springs (145 lbs seat and 370 lbs open)
Steel retainers and locks
195 cc intake port
milling, cleaning and assembly
flow about 260/180 CFM
assembled and ready to bolt on
And the Cam I am planning on getting is:
218/224 .570/.565 111 LSA. - 1500-6000 RPM
I have 2 questions. First off, would you guys recommend not buying the heads and camshaft just yet and rebuilding the engine first, due to high mileage? Second off, if you think the engine will still be alright with the 160k miles, what else would you recommend I should replace or upgrade? For the most part everything is stock, except for the K&N Intake. I'm not looking to get crazy with my car, I just want it to have some more zip on the highway when I see them ugly ricers and mustangs =P Anyways any advice would help.
What would you do if you were in my position?
Thanks!

Re: 160k Mile Engine: Advice? Cam/Header?
i would do headers (exhaust), cold air intake,a good exhaust, and other things first. then rebuild before putting heads on and instal heads with motor on a stand just did head gaskets on on z and its a pain in the a** with motor in the car.
Re: 160k Mile Engine: Advice? Cam/Header?
Depends on your money situation. If you can afford to run the shortblock till it blows, do it, although you might be losing compression with higher miles, which isn't ideal for making more power. You could always do a compression and leak down test to see how the motor is doing. It's always nice to start with a nice foundation for a solid heads and cam setup. That setup would make for a very drivable yet powerful street car.
