what will this 160 stat do for me and how much should it run about and where to buy. when you guys say stat you mean thermostat right

 

Search button would help you some in the future. 160 stat is a 160 degree thermostat. With the proper programming, it will lower the operationg temperature of your car. Insted of running at 210, your car will run at 180 degrees usually. You can buy them from many places, including thunderracing.com and ebay

 

dont buy autozone its regular SBc stat will f up your ride.

 

i run a regular ole autozone special 160 in my car...it heats up to 160 and rarely gets above that and if it does my fans will handle it

 

Theres a reason why they make a lt1 specific stat. I would not be running some sbc 160 like whoever above said but thats up to you. It seems to be working fine for squirrel though.

 

I believe they are $12 or $13 on summit. LT1's have reverse flow cooling so you should have a stat for the LT1 and I don't think you can get a 160 LT1 @autozone.

 

The sbc 160 degree sstats from autozone are shorter than thw LT1s. I installe one 1 week ago and my temp hasnt got above 160 yet and I made a 2 hour drive this week and stil didnt get over 160. Does that sound right.....? I leaked a little coolant onto the ground but it wasnt very much (about a pint). My OEM temp gauge hasnt moved yet. Does this sound like a problem?

 

I picked mine up from Summit for 18.00. It has yet to be installed as I am waiting to send out my PCM to be tuned by Madz28.com

 

The SBC thermostat is not the correct one. Why? Because the cooling passages (at the thermostat) are nothing like the old SBC. It may or may not work properly depending on how hot it is out. You can do what you want, but the right thermostat is the long one. As fragile/important as the cooling system is to the LT1, I prefer to use the correct stuff.

 

What effect would the 160 stat w/o the programming to turn the fans on sooner have? Certainly wouldn't hurt anything right, have to run at least a little cooler wouldn't it?? Does not one of the fans come on whenver the A/C is on regardless of current temp? My car rarely gets up hot enough to run the fans anyway it seems.

 

It will open a little sooner but it is still going to heat up to watever the fans are set at. It may run cooler on the highway where you have enough air.
