160 deg thermo causing bad mileage?

Is it true that a 160 degree thermostat will lessen gas mileage significantly? I heard a guy say something like that and wanted to get the right info before i went ahead and dropped one in.

Thanks

Paul

I'M THINKING COOLER ENGINE, COOLER AIR COMING IN WHICH WOULD BE MORE DENSE AND WOULD IN TURN WOULD CAUSE THE COMPUTER TO COMPESATE AND ADD MORE FUEL WHICH WOULD INCREASE POWER AND GAS MILEAGE WOULD DECREASE..

That theory is correct on more dense air and more horsepower, But this is to a very small degree. If any! And I have never heard of a 160 stat causing poor gas mileage , I have one and still get great gas mileage on the highway and in the city, Just as good as I did with the stock thermo!
