Edge Products

Hello Dan,
After seeing your reply I looked up your build sheet because I wanted to see if I could see any problem with the way we configured this converter. It was bought on 11/11/02 and sent to a Jefferson City address. The clearance was set at .088 and this is less then half the clearance of the stock converter. This is done to make the EDGE product more efficient then any competitors converter and get more power to the rear tires. The stator used in the "Street Edge" series you purchased from is from the GM 245mm theory and the casting number will end in 082. We have never used any other stators then the GM castings and they are made of aluminum not metal. The element is upgraded using a hardened inner race and the high performance springs and rollers.
If you can send in a stator from our product that is from foreign application I will refund TWICE your purchase price.
Im not saying that you didnt have a problem. I only regret we never had a chance to inspect and correct that problem. In almost 8 years we have only had a single return and that was from a faulty bearing sold to us by the same manufacture that GM uses for heavy duty torrington bearings.
I dont know who cut the EDGE product and gave it such bad feedback and dont want to know. I just wanted you to know that if they told you it had faulty clearance, or the stator was misapplied then they were incorrect.
If your returning the stator for my double refund offer please give us a call at 888 350 EDGE and I will look for it to arrive and let you know what I find.
Once again, Sorry for the problems you had and I would sure like to know what went wrong so I can avoid future problems.

Andre@Edge

P.S. As im sure you know, The 4L60e is a problem child and GM has worked hard to improve the design since it came out as the 700r4 in 1982. The rebuilder works hard to keep up with the updates to insure they build a product that goes out and stays out. While I cant and wont point any blame towards your transmission builder I will say that its possiable that the transmission still had inherent problems when you put it in the car with the EDGE product.

Andre,

As usual you and the guys at Edge are always most helpful.
I had to go on the word of my tranny guys as far as identifying where certain parts originated. Perhaps I heard wrong.

But they did find a tolerance problem and they may still have the info. They offered it up to me at the time so I could communicate the failure to you but I had decided to forego making any claim and keep all my tranny/converter work confined to one builder.

I'll ship you the remainder of parts if you like. But I'm not sure it'll do you any good. The back half of the converter was machined by my shop to try and get things right (they were trying to save me some cash) but it just wouldn't cut it.
Still, you can have the remainders. And I'll make an effort to get the "out of tolerance" numbers for you.

The tolerance problem would explain why I had some lockup issues under even moderate power. The converter would lock just fine under light load but seem to slip a few hundred rpm when applying power. Since this was my first aftermarket converter, I didn't have the knowledge to realize that something was slightly amiss. Eventually the problem resulted in destruction of the lockup portion of the converter along with some stator damage.

It's good to see that Edge (Andre) is here to defend his workmanship. I truly believe that I received a bum converter not representative of Edge's best work. As I stated before the only reason I didn't take it up with Edge was because I decided I wanted only one person/company to point the finger at if I had trouble in the future. So far I've been extremely satisfied with my current supplier.

If you're in Mid-MO check out M&M Transmission (Jefferson City) ... (573) 636-4136

I had a 2400 12" stall for a while. And all I can say is, it was joke compared to my Vig. 3200.
Sure it winds up a bit while cruizing. But when you get on the gas, it hits hard! The vigilante rocks!

A lot of local type tranny shops flat out can not build this tranny for a performance application, I used a large reputable shop and got burned bad. After it went I began asking more questions and the answers made me regret every using them, they have a very good rep in all other areas but this tranny for our purposes is just not their thing.
They were telling me how a 9.5" TC would drive bad and build massive heat, and that I would have to go with a 5 disc lockup and that even then a full Transgo kit was unneeded(they used the baby kit and I found out later), they swore 12" was the only way to go and to keep the stall low, wrong on every count. This shop is involved in helping Transgo with Allison applications so they like Transgo just can't build a 4L60E for abuse. I am far from the only person to have an experiance like this.

I know what you are saying about wanting to use one source, but honestly I think you need to at least ask yourself the question of wether they covered a screwup of their own by blaming the parts you supplied, not saying Andre's crew could never make a mistake we all do.

This time I had ProBuilt Automatics do my tranny, couldn't be happier with it and the Edge.

That's why the 4L60E needs to be taken to someone who has experience with the tranny. They are tricky I am planning on a Vig 3300 or 3500 stall.........I think i am going to get the 3500 and see if it is too much and then send it back for the re-stall during the winter
